Hey everyone.
Off-roading is my hobby and I use 2nd gen rams.
I'm no expert but know my way around these trucks and hope to share some of my time and experience with them from over the years.
Here was one of my trucks:
Here's a 97 2500 with a 5.9 that I picked up the other night and has a motor issue the previous owner didn't/wasn't able to correct.
So this thread is for building/fixing the 5.9 in the white dodge.
Figured I'd take everyone along for the ride and input.
Symptoms:
Engine Codes P0300, P0305
Loss of power
Flashing CEL under Load, Ex: Going up inclines, when the TCC locks
Cylinder #5 spark plug is wet with oil
Fluid Quality - Oil, tranny, coolant all look/smell good
Previous owner tried:
Spark Plugs, Wires, Cap, Coil, Injector, injector o-ring.
My turn:
Dry compression test:
This was done not per TSB, just to get an initial idea.
Number is the steady compression, not first crank. Approx 5th crank.
Cylinder - PSI
8 - 170
6 - 120
4 - 150
2 - 150
7 - 130
5 - 90
3 - 120
1 - 135
...
The plenum is typical for its year, wet on bottom of intake but not pooled.
Wires aren't routed correctly for the year and TSB
Deciding between getting an intake or plenum kit and going to re-route the spark wires correctly and mopar combustion cleaner.
Thinking going to need to pull the heads that this is going to need a full teardown. I've seen where the blow plenum puts oil into combustion, builds deposits, lowers compression. But thinking this is more than gaskets and combustion clean.
