Had 2x10" JL TW1's installed last week but I have an issue with my amp shutting off. Amp is a Kenwood XR 900-5. It shuts off when I turn the volume up high. It doesn't get hot at all and should easily be able to handle my set up. Both subs are running in parallel @ 2ohms. The sub channel is rated for 600w RMS @ 2 ohms. My Subs are rated 300w each @ 2ohms. All power coming into the amp reads where it should. The Ohms reads perfect as well.

The only way I have been able to get the amp to not shut off is by turning the gain way down. Anyone else have a similar issue? Do you think it is a problem with the amp internally?

do you have the 2ohm subs or the 4ohm?

how are you checking the impedance load at the amp? with 1 sub connected or both?

it sounds like its clipping like your ohm level is too low. meaning you have 2ohm subs are in parallel that would be a 1ohm at the amp.

What's your ground look like?

The shop that installed everything said it is good. I am getting the right amount of current and they checked everything with a multimeter

They are 4ohm subs. The shop checked the impedance and it was where it should be.

If a shop did this, why haven't they fixed it? From what you are telling us, it should play fine... pending a voltage issue.

I bought the amp off amazon. I just don't want to throw money at a new amp if that isn't the problem. The shop seems to think it is though.

Yes. Used a LC7 to connect to the head unit. I have the 8.4 RN I believe. It is the 8" touch screen. The other 4 channels are running Kenwood tweets and mids

I would check with a meter your self. Check voltage before and after the fuse holder, check resistance on the ground (make sure it is to sanded bare metal with multiple screws).. seat belt bolts don't count. Also read to make sure the amp is seeing 2 ohms at the connection. Are you using the other 4 channels?

The other 4 channels are going to Kenwood tweeters and mids. I have the normal 8.4 system

I'd put money on a bad ground with voltage issues, without seeing it for myself.

Originally I thought that as well but I had it in the shop today and they said the ground isn't the issue.

They won't take the amp back. They said I have to send it to Kenwood for warranty work.

Have any friends with amps?

Unfortunately I don't or I would swap it out and check myself. I would check the ground connection but I don't know where they connected it. I would have to trace it.
