I've noticed as of late that if I drive my truck around town a bit and it gets fully warmed up, it revs way higher than it should before shifting. Like, it holds the gear until I lift and let it shift. I did pull the TV cable 1/8th in back a while back, but that never made it behave this way. I'm wondering if it's a heat issue because the cooler line going into the radiator is piping hot and the one coming out of the aux cooler isn't as hot (which is good). I'll be bypassing the factory rad. cooler next week and installing a larger aux cooler along with the factory unit as well. I'm also considering if it's a line pressure issue too.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

She is starting to go bud, save more faster. The more worn the part and the warmer/hotter it gets the more it expands and that changes the tolerances. That is what's going on.

Damnit. I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet and change the fluid, filter and tighten the bands before the end of the year. There was a fella that had the same problem and he was able to remedy it by tightening his bands, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it helps.

lol yup.

At this point, I'm willing to try it because...well....late shifting can't be good for it as it is. I need to check the other transmission shops in the area because the one I originally called wants 2200 for a stock rebuild. :suicide:

And thanks, I'll need it. lol

Why not get a pos 46re and try rebuilding it yourself? Good learning exp and you get to buy /make some tools. Has to be cheaper than getting one built for you.

my trans is toast in my 99 ram, slipping bad... on a side note I found a guy three hours from me that'll rebuild it for $400.. but that involves me pulling it and a 3 hour drive one way to get it to him. just waiting to get more funds. should be rebuilt and back in in a few weeks. keep looking around, I'm sure you'll find a better price than 2200!

$400....too good to be true. lol I called another shop and he quoted me 18-2000 for R&R and rebuild. So that's better. I asked a buddy and he suggested the shop he used to work for, owner is a Mopar nut and knows his stuff, so that's something. lol

LOL I KNOW RIGHT! same guy that rebuilt the tranny in my 95 blazer (also $400).. which was OBD1.5 and are super hard to find at a salvage yard so I didn't have much of a choice when it came to that one.. he seems to have done a great job from what I hear, I beat the **** out of that blazer for 4 month when I got it all back together and never had any problems with it shifting so I hope to have the same luck with this one.. I'm guessing you want pics of my receipt saying $400 as well right? or it didn't happen ;)

I don't doubt you paid 400 bucks, I just find it hard to believe that anyone would build a trans. for that cheap. lol I guess if they're an ex-trans. guy and aren't doing the R&R themselves that'll cut the price down.

he used to work at a trans shop, now I guess he works out of his house on the weekends, just doing it on the side.

Adjusting the bands won't change shift points.. All it does is adjust the band to drum clearance for correct shift timing meaning time between gears. Sounds like line pressure issue to me

Either low pressure causing slip resulting in heat or something causing heat resulting in low pressure or thin fluid
