Hey guys I am looking to get a 98 1500.

One question I have is about the back seat in the quad cab, does it fold up?
Will I be able to fold up seat to make more room in back?

Also, it does have about an inch of clear coat bubbling/flaking.
Is there a way to stop or limit this from spreading?

There does not seem to be any slippage in the tranny, but it does have 200k miles.
Should I be looking to rebuild tranny? or wait until it shows signs of problems?

Thanks for the input, Excited to be a dodge truck owner!

Here is a pic of what I am looking at....

#1 yes the rear seat should fold up (at least it did when i had a qc) #2 clear coat is absolute crap on these trucks, both 2nd gens ive owned have had clear coat problems so your best bet is to maybe have someone sand that clear off and respray it #3 tranny's are usually prone to issues as everyone knows so youre probably looking at a rebuild soon, as soon as there are any signs of it going out i would be getting a reman tranny

My truck had the trans rebuilt 3 times under warranty by the time it hit 60k. Guy finally did it right so this 4th trans has held since then and now I have 136k. As long as you take proper care and maintenance of them they can last and surprisingly well. My superchips performance time helped mine run even better than it did so hopefully that should stretch life a bit.

Truck looks clean and I wouldn't have a problem trusting 200k If the test drive goes well. The engines aren't the fastest or the most powerful but they're work horses and reliable.

Well right now it is just a small spot, more bubbling than flaking.
Didn't know if it was worth recoating for that, or if I could help prevent the spread of it, or at least slow it down.

Good buff with some polishing compound and auto buffer should clean that up pretty well. That is as long as it's just the clear coat and not rust bubbling up both the paint and clear

Also has these spots under the passenger door.

Possible rust under?

Those look rusty to me

Yes, Looks like it is only the lower panel on the passenger door.

I have a sander, a grinder, and hplv gun, shouldn't be too much to do that lower panel.

Another Question, How do I know if this cam with any type of Tow package?

The only reason I ask is that it has a 7-pin plug on it. Thought that might be an indicator of a tow package, any thing else to look for?

The 7 pin plug came stock on a lot of these trucks but I'm not sure if that's an indicator of a towing package. To know for sure check out your build sheet from dodge.

Alright, got my Build sheet.

Light Group
Heavy Duty Service Group
Trailer Tow Group
Convenience Group
Power Convenience Group
Travel Convenience Group

Also had an engine block heater, which I thought was a little odd, BUT then I see that it originated in Canada.
It has Build To Canada Mkt. Specifications and Ontario Province Code

Does anyone know what the Canada market Specs are? and if they differ from USA?

No, but the build sheet does say "200 KPH Primary Speedometer"

But it actually has the MPH as primary and KPH underneath that.
That might of been changed at sometime though...
