Very true. They're made in Mexico, Canada, and Michigan though.
That's where they are assembled, but the components that go into the parts used in these trucks are made in many more countries than you listed. China is a big supplier of electronic components.

I thought I'd post on here to see if I could get any answers or really any comments regarding this thread.

Back in September of 2018 my Dad bought a brand new, right off the lot, 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. He had two other Rams in the past, a 2009 and a 2013 - both amazing, beautiful, and outstanding, reliable trucks... until this 2019.

Now, I am his son and when he was deciding between two, he let me choose the one he should get, go figure!

I simply want to go over some issues regarding his truck that have occurred since late, 2018.

All these issues are not in date order, as I haven't kept good track of dates and when issues have occurred.

Two weeks
after my father purchased his brand new 2019 Ram 1500, the power folding mirrors required service as they power folded in, but manually had to be pushed back out, as they got stuck.

Most recently, the "bolts" or "joints" that I believe connect the exhaust to the muffler somehow "snapped off." One morning we started the truck up via the remote start and noticed it sounded much louder than it did the day before. Don't get me wrong, it sounded amazing, but it's still an issue. My dad called the dealership and they told him it was not covered under Warranty or his purchased, "Extended Warranty." - meaning he had to pay out of pocket.

Back in June-ish of 2020, we were excited to drive 8 hours away from home to go on a vacation. One issue occurred though, about a week before the vacation my dad's truck had to be serviced due to the truck failing to start when the push to start button is pushed. The dealership service department had the truck for almost a week and gave it back to us two days before we had to leave and told us the "RF Hub was replaced and that caused the starting issue." Okay, well that's good that it's fixed! On our way down, skeptical but happy- we made it down to the vacation spot. The truck worked perfectly for the 6 out of 7 days we were there, but go figure- on the last and final day we ran into an issue. One night we were planning on running out to grab some food and the truck failed to start. After about 10-12 tries of starting it, we heard the weirdest noise come from the engine. I mean like if I dropped a sharp heavy metal object into the engine and it hit every single thing inside the engine, it was a not so pleasant noise. After about 20 tries, it started. We got back, tried it a few more times- worked fine. The morning of leaving, guess what- the truck fails to start again. It once again, took my Dad about 20 tries to start it. On our 8 hour ride home, we never once turned the truck off- not for gas, not for stops, nothing. Once we got back, it was serviced and on a 2019, they told us the "starter went bad". A starter on a 2019, a one year old truck at this time?

Sometime, I believe in 2020 as well the truck needed service for some reason, I honestly can't remember. Now this probably leans more on the service department, but they kept my dad's truck for an entire month because they could not figure out what was causing the issue it was causing. Ultimately - it was a very small piece way in the back of the engine.

Another issue that occurred in 2020-2021 were the Front ParkSense sensors. My dad has been in the service shop three different times for these sensors. The first time they told him faulty wiring, second time, once again- faulty wiring, and the third time they told him the actual physical sensors needed replaced. Needless to say, after "repairing" the sensors, literally the day later the "Service Front ParkSense" popped up.

Another issue that occurred was the overhead lighting failed to turn on. They said they had to replace the entire overhead compartment, the compartment that holds the emergency buttons and the moonroof buttons.

Another issue that has occurred has been with the tailgate. Sometimes and a lot of the times, the tailgate fails to open and you only hear a "click." So, you have to push it really hard and then pull it, to open it. My dad went in to get this serviced and they said they "lubricated" the tailgate. Needless to say, this issue still occurs.

Another major issue that has occurred has been with the engine cylinders. My father's truck has had at least 4-5 "Cylinder Misfires" since he bought the truck. The same symptoms every time, the engine fails to give any power and it seems as if you are going to stall. Understanding that all 4-5 times, has been yet again, another drive to the service department. All 4-5 misfires have also occurred in approx. 6 months.

Another issue that needed fixed was the "Throttle Cable." Same symptoms as the misfires, the engine fails to give any power and it seems as if you are going to stall.

Another issue that was never brought into service was one time the truck failed to pump gas normally. It almost seemed as the tank was full and the truck didn't want anymore gas, even though the truck was nowhere near full.

Another issue that was never brought into service was when the truck sometimes fails to get out of Park. It'll display a message stating, "Please put the vehicle in park." - or something along those lines and it'll never let you get out of park unless you restart the engine a couple of times.

And despite all of the issues I have posted, I know these aren't all the issues my Dad has ran into. These are the most upfront and larger scaled or newer issues.

Here's the issue though- when my Dad comes to trade this truck in, how does he know with buying another Ram that he will receive a reliable and durable truck? Would he seriously be a fool to buy another Ram after all the issues he's had?
He loves Ram. He likes the looks, everything. He hates Ford, Chevy, GMC, all the other brands.

I wrote this up just to see if anyone else has ran into any issues with their 2019 Ram 1500's. I meant for this thread to be as respectful as possible to Ram as I understand that this truck was, as my grandpop would say, "built on a Friday."
Sorry for all your dad's problems, sounds like he passed a few on to you. I'd consider returning it to the dealership claiming 'Lemon Law'. My dad had a Chevy conversion van that he had to do that and the dealership helped him deal with a much better solution. Glad your dad kept the maint at the dealership to have a good tracability.

I too had a 2019 all new problems Ram 1500. Drove the truck for work. Put about 31k miles in 13 months. What a POS!!! It was brand new and had more issues than any other vehicle I have ever owned. Steering failed, battery died, ac broke, defrost broke, tailgate broke, weather stripping broke, radio signal broke, volume for radio broke, bluetooth broke, broke, broke, broke... not to leave out all the recalls that the dealer wouldn't fix. What a nightmare!!!
I went back to a classic Ram 1500 and not one single issue. It's been 27k miles on my new classic and all good. I don't think I can ever trust a new model ever again. Sorry Ram, your new truck sucks!

2022 Rams will hit the showroom possibly in 5 weeks

They already had some Demo models at a car show about 10 days ago

The fancy electronics that require the Microchips, may or may not be available, like the 360 view camera

Several comments in this discussion, mentioned Monday or Friday Production.
The way the Ram assembly workers shifts work, is not like your regular 9 to 5 job

Before Covid, Ram was running 3 shifts & they were Rotating, the plant was running 6 days a week.

I don't recall whether or not both Warren & Sterling Heights were both operating fully

When the Microchips become more readily available, Dealership lots will be flooded with brand new Rams that will be several months old

SUCKS!!!!

I don't know, I had 3 4th gens and I wouldn't go back from my 5th gen. I also wouldn't buy a brand new first year redesigned truck for the reasons you listed, you take a decent chance of being the live tester and dealing with the bugs. Buy a couple of years into the new generation and you'll have a much better chance of having a trouble free truck.

Also shouldn't be surprising that your classic has been more reliable, they have been making them for well over a decade so I would hope it wouldn't have many/any issues.

My plan for the 5th gen is the same as all of my 4th gens, keep it until around 50-55k miles when things start needing to be replaced, and then dump it. They all seem to start having issues (minor but still issues) around that mileage for me.

my laramie has been awsome. runs great handles better than any truck I have ever had. I get 20 on the highway most of the time. the interior gets rave reviews from folks that ride in it. the only glitch I have had is at high speeds with any strong crosswind I get an occasional whistle around my driver side door. yesterday at 80 near amarillo, it was pretty windy and I heard a few chirps and whistles. I have not been able to figure out just exactly where but seems like along the bottom of the door on the downwind side which makes me think the door doesnt close tight enough and gets sucked out a little by the change in pressure. other than that it has been a great truck.

As of 8/25/21 the "Service Front ParkSense Sensors" has popped up again! The front sensors fail to work 99% of the time as of now. They've worked on these sensors on three different occasions. They've "replaced wiring" twice and "replaced the physical sensors once."

What more could you fix on the damn parking sensors?

doesnt seem like it would be that hard to get it fixed. I turned mine off because it was too annoying when parking at home in my garage. the auto-braking got turned off early on also. it slammed on the brakes when I was in a stop and go traffic jamb early on so I turned it off. instead, I look out the front windshield and stop as needed..

@AbruptEnforcement - If you have everything well documented, you might have a "Lemon Law" case. I don't know in which state you reside, and even if I did, I wouldn't easily know the laws. You have to do the research yourself and most likely have at least a consultation with an attorney. The legal route is always the worse because it's time-consuming, it can get expensive, and the outcome is always a big question mark. You could, however, use it as leverage for the dealership to work with you and put you and your dad in a different truck if that's an idea that you entertain or feel that it's the right thing for them to do and you're comfortable with it. You should take a look at "Lehto's Law" on YouTube, watch a few of his videos, and judge for yourself if this is an avenue you might want to pursue: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMljRGC0eBJrxbUorWEnasg

If, however, you believe that you can live with the constant issues and get help here and in other places to fix your truck, then disregard my comment. I just wanted to offer my two cents and, if at all possible, help you with some advice.

The AutoBrake feature of Parksense got turned off the first day I picked up my Ram and got home. I do leave PS on most of the time* and just let it scream at me when I back into my garage.

*It automatically turns off the Rear when you hook up a trailer, which makes sense. But it doesn't recognize when the tailgate is down, so I have to manually turn it off then. Also, I turn off both front and rear when going through the Auto Carwash (horrors! see other thread...).

I agree with Daw. You got a lemon. I'd say nothing, get a 2021 if you see one you like, or order a 22, get a good price on your trade and go pick it up when ready. Let someone else deal with that lemon.

Cross fingers, toes, beak, tail feathers, whatever I can. MY 19, except for AC, which I had TSB done, has been fine. (I did turn off the auto rear stop BS, kinda hate when backing up and truck locks up because it sees grass and weeds, LOL).

That is a crap-ton of problems.

So much so, I would have been looking at legal action. Way too many issues.
I agree. Lemon Law. Maybe not too late. Take that list of issues and see a Lemon Law attorney. You'll wind up with your choice of all your money back, or a brand new 2021 Ram 1500. Plus, they have to pay for your attorney fees.

I agree you got a bad one. Unfortunately it happens, especially first year of a new model.

I just had the power fold mirrors replaced on my 19. The mechanism has been re-engineered due to a high rate of failure. This is a warranty item. But aside from that, I have had zero problems with mine.

Trade in prices are high right now. May be a good time to trade for a new one. They’ve had 3 years to fix the “bugs” like the power fold mirror mechanism.
I bought my 2019 3500 Laramie Cummins 6.7 as a 1st year of a newly re-designed model and have only had two small issues. The wire that powered the rear window defroster was disconnected and they had to replace the entire window. Also, the tailgate had to be adjusted because it would not entirely close. Both covered under warranty. Otherwise the truck has been great. I love it and the honeymoon continues.
