I was thinking about blacking out the grill, how would you recommend doing that?
I little write up I did
1. Remove grill from truck
2. Using the 60 grit sand paper. I sanded the whole surface area that I was going to be painting. You want to make sure you scuff it up really well, that will give the primer a good base to adhear to.
3. Spray 1-2 coats of Self Etching primer onto the entire grill.
4. Since I was going with black cross hairs, and color matched outer edge. I went ahead and sprayed my black onto the grill. You want to go with light coats. It took me 4 coats. Make sure you spray even also. If not that will cause some high spots and it will not turn out good.
5. Once I finshed the black, it was time to tape that off. That way I wouldn't get white paint on the black. (Make sure the black paint is dry first.)
6. Spray the white like you did the black paint. Light even coats.
7. Once you the white has dryed...removed the paper and tape you used to cover the black with.
8. Inspect your work and make sure you didn't get an overspray were you didn't want it to be.
9. If your work is good..now is time for the clear coat. Spray the clear coat just like your sprayed the white and black. 2-3 good coats of clear coat with be good.
10. Once that is dry, inspect your work. If your happy...move one to the next step.
11. Now its time to wet sand it. Get you a spray bottle, fill it with water. Spray your grill with the water, and LIGHTLY wet sand your grill with the 2000 grit. I'll say again...LIGHTY!!!
12. After you wet sand it...polish the grill with polishing compund. Doing this will give the grill a good shine to it...looking factory.
13. Re-enstall your grill. And enjoy your work (or pissed bc you messed up)
