The Amsoil filter is really good too !!
Fully agree on the RP oil filter. I did my homework and dumped the MOPAR paper element and went to RP. Due to warranty MS12663 must stick to Amsoil or PUP.

Oh yeah pair that filter with the recommended oil weight for the 5.7 and your motor should be nice and happy.

NOTE: Mopar SAE 5W-30 engine oil approved to FCA Material Standard MS-6395 may be used when SAE 5W-20 engine oil meeting MS-6395 is not available.

NOTE: For 2500/3500 trucks with a 5.7L engine operating under a gross combined weight rating of 14,000 lbs (6 350 kg) or greater, SAE 5W-30 meeting FCA Material Standard MS-6395 engine oil is recommended for all operating temperatures."

Engine Oil Viscosity (SAE Grade) — 6.4L Engine

Use MOPAR SAE 0W-40 engine oil approved to FCA Material Standard MS-12633 such as Pennzoil Ultra equivalent is recommended for all operating tempera- tures.

So for a hard working motor they spec out 5w30 oil, and one that has higher moly and zinc than some other oils like Pennzoi .

I see they like a even heavier oil for the harder working 6.4 Hemi, its also using the same msd lifters as the 5.7 Hemi does.

I don’t know why,

But i just couldn’t bring myself to use an Amsoil filter with redline oil. To much rivalry.

I think the engine may become a black hole or something.

I mean, i Love Amsoil filters. Its just a “ thing” I couldn’t do.

A can of red spray paint would work. Or bed liner paint, I kinda like that grippy stuff on the Fram ultra's.d382094eade5e3d74dc3f4130421dee1.jpg

UPDATE:

I changed the factory oil at 1150 miles and I replaced it with PUP 5W20. I planned on using this oil for two more 3K OCIs before changing to Redline 5W30. Same hill but different and heavier trailer (6000 lbs) about the same outside temperature of 95F. Oil had about 1400 miles before my trip. Oil temp reached 260F:

It appears that Mobile 1 also meets the Chrysler spec

Really, where did you find, that M1 now has the MS12663 cert? That would give us 3 warranty compliant oil choices.

Hmmm...so I did an oil change last month and based of a review of the Mobil 1 website I purchased Mobile 1 (was way on sale at Costco) as the page listed it as being certified. Today I can't find that Mobile 1 is certified, only their Mobile Super Synthetic...

I guess a switch is order at next oil change...

I looked for anything on the web related to M1 MS certification, could not find that they had that certification now. I will look up super synthetic and see if it is MS12663 cert. Would be great if you find anything, post it. We need other choices. Thanks

If your oil temp is getting that high, you really should be running a 5w30. 20wt oil is only a 20wt at 210*. At 260* 20wt oil is no longer a 20wt oil, more like a 15wt or even 10wt. Not good for an engine under that kind of load...

Thanks, I agree. It makes no sense to run such a thin oil while towing. 5W30 it is.

Pretty sure your owner's manual recommends 30wt oil while towing .

Just got back from our weekend trip and watch my oil temps while pulling my 28' camper which I would guess is less than 6,500 lbs loaded down.
Oil temp was getting up there for sure and its fairly flat around here compared to other parts if the country.
This is 4 quarts of RL 10w30 and 3 of 5w30 I ran locked out in 6th gear 60 to 65 mph with the down shift to 5th on the bigger hills on 35s, truck pulls this with really no effert so I would hate to see what the oil temps on a 5.7 that was working its ass off .

Thanks for sharing. On flat roads it was somewhere between 240F-250F. However on a steep incline and at 3K+ RPM, the oil temp suffers and a heavier oil should help protect the engine better. Not sure that the oil temps will be lower though and for that I think the only solution is to add a larger oil cooler.

Yes I will be adding a oil cooler when I do the oil filter relocation kit.
My truck runs in the 220s empty which is fine to me but did not care to see it running that high.
