Well whenever I look at my nice new clean truck in the sun seems like something always catches my eye! This time one outward dent in the tailgate to the right of the emblem. Anyone else notice any outward dents on their tailgates? Damn this patriot blue shows everything! Brand new truck! No clue how this could even happen, truck is new and pampered.

Factory sheet metal is littered with ripples. If you have ever witnessed a well-done custom car in the sunlight and marveled at how strait it is, you'll understand my claim about factory sheet metal. It's production....not custom. You paid a lot of hard earned bucks for it and your mind...and eye...is keen to that. Fugettabodit!! Try to get some rest :)

I know this style gets the waves or whatever in the bed and such as well, honestly if the dent doesn’t make the paint crack and lead to rust issues I don’t care, the paint cracking is my main concern.

If the paint hasn't cracked already,it'll be fine
You could get paintless dent removal done if it really bothers you

I think I will roll with that, with my luck if I get it repaired something bad will happen. Digging deeper into the great internet seems like this issue goes back to 2005 and there is a track bar or something of those lines in that area that may be the issue during production or a fluke reason.

Not true.My 19 ram with 20k has paper thin metal. How did I come to this conclusion? After a hail storm my 11 Audi and ram were side by side in the driveway and the PDR damage was 3x worse for the ram and now there’s an outward dimple not a dent on my wheel well. It’s not a work truck, and I have always enjoyed polishing my cars but every time I do my newest one looks the oldest.

Just park it in the Target parking lot for an hour.

All those outward imperfections will get pushed back in no time from other drivers doors etc :waytogo:
I always take my older Tahoe or the wife’s car to the store since she doesn’t care about her car in lots, if I take my truck it’s the back 40 for me

Let's see a picture.
Maybe a bracket was installed wrong or something else inside the tailgate?

Truck is brand new and on warranty. Make the dealer fix it, and properly at that, if it bugs you that much.

What’s the difference in a Dimple and a dent?

I don’t even know how they would go about that, if the paint will never be effected I would rather live with it if they had to do paint work. It just bugs me that it’s really my first new vehicle I paid a lot for and I try to keep it beautiful, and stuff that I don’t even do on my own damage wise bothers me. I put a nice scratch under the tail light already somehow so the perfect truck times are already done!

If it's pushed outward, it's probably something from the install. Too long of a bolt or bracket not quite aligned 'right' when they went to bolt it down. Could be a stray nut sitting at the bottom of the tailgate which became wedged between a bracket when it was installed ..there could be several things which caused it. Maybe it was fine after final inspection, but after it arrived in your town, a drug smuggler on the receiving end put a ding in it (from the inside) when prying the bundle of 'goods' loose. Saw something like that on TV once :D .

Let's see a pic.

From my other research that’s what people seem to think it is, since this apparently has been going on since 2005 on here, I will try to take a picture but it really is hard to notice unless you are in the sunlight

I guess I could say it looks like a little pimple? Seriously hard to see unless the sun is on it
