I need some feedback on doing emblems; such as the "Ram 1500", " 4X4" on the tailgate, etc. Are most people using the fishing line to take the emblems off, dipping them then putting them back on? Or are they painstakingly masking and spraying on the vehicle. And if taking them off, which is my guess, is something extra being used to reapply them so they stay adhered to the body? Thanks!

For the lettering you don't need to remove. Just tape around like the picture I posted below and remove the overspray when your finished. Comes out perfect.

Cool, thanks. That also eliminates the concerns regarding reattaching. - Chris

I have found a great use for plasti-dip.

My Sport had the chrome grille.... I hate chrome, especially the fake plastic chrome.

I liked the look of the grille.. just not the finish.
I do have a 10 year job history in the finish business... Own an air compressor and 4-5 high quality spray guns (well...they were 15 years ago at least lol)

I didn't feel like buying $50-$80 worth of primers and paint/clear etc...

So I took off the grille... Roughed it up with #320 and shot 5-6 coats of plasti-dip (this was my flexible primer) Then finished it with high quality rattle can semi-gloss black.

I think I've got just around 10k on it since I did this.... and rock chip #1 has not reared it's ugly head yet.

I'd say I'm doing it right.

I already had the materials on hand...It looks perfect, and is holding up great.

Oddly enough, I do have a bulldog... But he only has two talents...He's a good swimmer, and pretty good at amusing our guests.

Also have used it on my ram on chrome pieces and some interior trim and its all held up great, through 2 northeast winters.

What color dip is that? It would look good with my truck.
