Started noticing a whining from the rear end, axle shaft bearings are clearly bad as there is play. Went to change bearings and I think I found the source of my clunk on acceleration. Do I need a complete rebuild? Or think I can replace the bearings and be good to go?

Can't tell without pulling the carrier and pinion gear to inspect the bearings. Looks like water intrusion. So the bearings could have pitting and/or disintegration. Being that far tore down I'd definitely replace the axle and pinion seals. Bearings replaced based on inspection.
