I am replacing the evaporator behind the dash in my 2009 Ram 1500 Laramie starting tomorrow morning. Seems like an easy but tedious job based on some YouTube videos and shouldn’t take me more than 2 days to get done. I know the dashboard and center console has to come out and the steering column dropped. Any lessons learned to share from the folks that have tackled this job? Thanks and wish me luck.

I haven't done the Ram HVAC box (done a few other vehicles) ...but can I ask why you need to replace it?

The ac is shot and the evaporator has been identified as leaking

I’ve heard this. Sounds like a plan! I’ll check with my NAPPA GUY. Thanks

I would spend the extra $$ for a Mopar H/C myself. ...but that's me.

I was successful in Reno the dashboard and box the holds the evaporator. The YouTube video on how to remove the 2009 Ram 1500 evaporator was so helpful.
There are 2 bolts up by the windshield that secure the dashboard to the upper frame. One was easy the other was stripped and could not get it out so I had to access it from the firewall area. I cut a hole in it and used a pry bar under the bolt while a friend backed it out. WAPITA!!!
Anyways, going to get cold air tomorrow. Should be good to go!!IMG_3181.jpeg

Glad you were able to get it out. What a place for a stripped set of threads.

I did mine at the end of march. Mine musta been leaking a lot longer than yours.

They replaced the Evap core and changed sensors, repositioned some and added sensors on MY 2019 DT truck under warranty, because FCA put in bad parts when they built the 1st DT trucks. I have one of the earliest built 2019's, built in April 2018. All work done at Dealership. As U can see, they pulled out everything, lol.

Since you have a new clean evaporator, might want to add the cabin air filter to keep it from plugging up with dirt.

'Fortunate you got an Old School tech, the two juniors there are somewhere else,
'Luckily mine is a March 2019 build so that was changed on mine.

The lead mechanic there was an old school tech. I had talked to my SA, and he assigned that Tech to work on my truck. He was retiring at the end of the week, after working on my truck, and my truck was the last thing he did as a mechanic before retiring. I got him some beer for working on my ride. He took his time and took 2 1/2 days to do the work, instead of rushing through the task. Now U know, the RAM system never gonna cool as good as the GM systems, but a lot better now than when I bought it. It was cooling 55-57 degrees, now on one vent I get 43 degrees and on a great day, may get 42 on Max cool. Works for me since temps here are over 100 in Summer.
