My 2011 (Ram 1500 4wd) has 150k on the clock and the lifter/cam issue finally caught up with us. Rather than invest $3k for cam repair on a high-mileages engine, or $4500 for a remanufactured motor, why not just drop in a low-mileage engine from a 2014 or 2015?
What’s the year range where electronics are still compatible?
Is it REALLY a drop-in swap? Minor things I can deal with...

Thanks!

Pretty sure its 14 when it changed but not positive. I vote you call up Arrington performance and drop a 426 in that bad boy GL.

Hey Rick did you come up with a solution? I have a 2011 as well and the same issue. I found a 2017 engine with 28k on it and want to use it. It’s a complete engine minus the alternator which I already have a new one. It has the 2017 wiring harness on it but I would think that I would need to use my 2011 harness. If you have any ideas or input that could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2011 with 107k on it. Bought it at 85k. All these posts about cams here has me nervous. Figured I’d get 250k on this engine before these kind of problems showed up. Now I’m thinking I’ll only make it another 20k-30k more. Should I just get rid of this thing and buy a Ford? It’s what I’m leaning towards now.
