I have a 2003 1500. Want to make sure I'm right on speaker size. Front doors are 6x9 dash are 3 1/2. Are the rear door speakers 5 1/2 or 6 1/2?
Also. My 2003 head unit does not have the aux outlet on the front. I would like to replace this with a newer unit that does. Is this a direct swap out if I can find one.
Thanks

I would like to just get a newer oem head unit. My buddy had an 06 that had a factory CD player that also had an aux plug. Just trying to make it easier to use my iPod.

I guess if you had him pull his out and look at his plugs. If the connectors are the same I wouldn't see why not

Thank you

Oh no. It was always in the truck. I just remembered seeing his radio with the aux plug and his was an 06 mine is an 03 and as I recall it looked like the same bezels but it's been a year or so since he sold it. I remembered it had the aux plug and would like to have one.

The bezels are different on those years. The 06 has a bigger opening since the radio is taller and more square than the 02-05 models.

yeah, hate to bring the bad news :( and I'm not sure that any of the oem 02-05 radios had an aux plug.

I don't think so. I have used about every iPod playing system and have found that the old tape with a wire works better than anything, if you still have a cassette deck. Mine didn't but I bought a combo CD cassette unit from a recycling yard that was also out of an 03 just to use my iPod. I don't need a fancy new aftermarket head unit or anything. I would rather spend the money on go-fast mods.

yeah, I hear ya there. If it works well, might as well stick with it and spend the $ on things you'd rather have.

You could always go up to Best Buy, they have newer CD/MP3 stereo's for as cheap as $85 and they aren't the wal-mart brands

Convert, for now.

get an aftermarket HU, most are cheap enough nowdays, and they have an AUX in the front. Stock is 3.5" dash, get slim coax 6x9 in doors and either rear fill 5.25" or add an amp and sub, forget rear 5.25"

Not into subs, I'm getting old. Haha. I have been thinking about an aftermarket HU. I may look into an amp. The rear speakers are shot. No sound from the pass side, lots of crackle from the driver. So they are going to have to be replaced.

not only would the 06 and up radio not fit in the opening because the bezels are different, but it wouldn't work either because in 06 they switch to can bus for the radio. To make our decision for aftermarket easier, i don't think there was a radio before 06 that had and aux. input like you are looking for.
