I don't know for sure but I would guess that most seals would be at least silicone or maybe PTFE...

Almost A VOA!

I would only send it in if I had hemi tick, but that is me. The only thing you will learn is you are changing your oil too soon.

No response today from Redline.

Does Blackstone accept cash in a ziplock baggie in with the oil sample LOL! I'll have to make this a covert operation after dumping $80.00 in the drain pan. She ( Mrs. ) didn't believe me when I told her it was for a stool sample!!! She said, "in that little jar"!

Nitrous rubber spring loaded oil seals, compared to my 1939 Ford 8N tractor flat head engine that used fiber two piece rope seals front and rear and straight 30wt mineral oil with zero additives.
8N tractor engine two piece rope seals are now coated with PTFE(Teflon).

Use of methanol blended with gasoline, especially in the corn belt, also has an adverse affect on rubber seal swelling when the unburned fuel contaminates the motor oil.

Would guess RL is, 60% POE maximum,40% min ,15% POA minimum, 35% max &, 25% additive package by volume.

I'm sure the market is driving that decision. Walmart is in serious trouble these days, I'm sure whatever isn't moving is being looked at hard. Maybe someone is giving them a better markup for the space. That is exactly what I would do if I was negotiating for one of the other oil companies.

Got a reply from Redline:

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, the Red Line 5W20 is certainly suitable for use in your engine, the hydroscopic nature is related to the molecular weigh of the base stock used, our oil I not either hydroscopic harmful to the seals.

Here was my reply, very similar. If that isn't good enough for you, don't use the stuff. I certainty will be using Redline in this Hemi til the end, unless something better comes along. I'm glad the thread is still challenging me, I certainly learned plenty of new oil stuff this week. Thanks to all the oil guys.

Mike,

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, our oils are not harmful to seals, they are designed with comparable seal compatibility to a petroleum oil. The seal swell characteristic are a factor of the molecular weight of the base stock used, a low molecular weight can cause greater seal swell. As you and our numerous customers have found there isn’t a seal compatibility issue with our products.

Regards, Dave

Pennzoil ultra has never been available at Walmart or even auto parts anywhere close to me ive searched. Don't know why, I just bought 2 5qt jugs of platinum myself the other day at Walmart, 24.95 ea. going to replace the PYB with it and might run lube guard with it. I debated awhile over which one PP or M1, since I have not tried PP in 5-30 it won out.
I almost don't want to dump the PYB (5-30) it has proved to be the best of all oils I have tried so far as to start up noise and quietness when hot.

Same here, I've never seen PUP at the Walmart near me.

Yeah PYB is a great oil...

I liked PYB over PP in terms of noise. Granted the PYB was 5w-30 and PP was 5w-20. But even on startup the PYB was quieter.

Did they fail it? Redline often doesn't pay for testing, wasn't the first or last time I've seen that. Clearly there must be a process that allows certain esters to not swell seals, and Redline eluded to that. I kept an open mind, but I haven't remotely heard anything that would give me any concern. Not now or at no time in more then a decade of researching oils. Kind of silly to even talk about a hypothetical issue that never existed.
