Don't grill me too hard just yet about not having it built to the hilt. I've only had the truck for 4 days[emoji1787]

Basics: 2012 1500 Laramie Crew 5.5 4x4. 135k on the odometer. 5.7. the rest I'm not sure of. I'd like to get a build sheet for it so I know what all it has for gears/trans etc.

I have been looking for a new daily for years on and off. I wanted a 3/4 diesel but the budget just wasn't there and I really didn't "need" one. Which modern diesels are more needy than ever and really aren't practical unless you actually need one. So I started hunting for a gasser. As it stands I really didn't need a 3/4. My budget was kinda in a goofy range where I could get a nice half or a half decent 3/4. I wanted something clean. And a moderate list of options including tow/haul, backup cam, full crew, locking rear diff and I was open to more than that if possible. I loved the aluminum f150s with the 3.5 and I was good with a 5.0 as well. But I still couldn't keep a Ram off my list either. I've always loved the 4th gen bodies and interior.

My previous daily was an 08 magnum sxt. It had 200k miles and was due for a timing belt, water pump, thermostat, brakes and tires. I was not about to put another grand plus into a $3,000 car that wasn't even worth a darn in the snow. My weekend toy was a tired 97 k1500. That was my baby for almost a decade.

I traded the magnum in and got this bad boy.

Items requiring immediate addressing:
First items on the to do list are getting all my fire lights and siren on it. This will be a clean and hopefully no drill installation. I take a lot of time when it comes to these things. I'll also be putting my back rack and toolbox on it, as well as a few other little things from my old truck. After that will be a brake controller. This truck will be hauling my 30ft TT. ITBM or my prodigy p3 are my options. I'm leaning towards the OEM controller but I already have the p3. Also need to track down why my driver's fog light is intermittently in/op and replace my cracked third brake light.

Future plans:
First off will probably be tint. Match the front sides and at the very least a 5% brow. Tossing around the idea of 50% all the way down the shield, but tint is illegal here and it would be dead obvious with a rainbow on my shield. The fire lights make me considerably less likely to get effed with for it, which is why I'm considering it, but I'm still up in the air about it. I'll make a decision after I sell some stuff off and get some funds built back up.

After that will be a leveling kit. The front rake bothers me and I'd like it to sit a little higher. Coil spacers are cheap so it's on my short list. I wanna be able to get a set of 305/55/20 Nitto Dune Grapplers and clear them problem free. It'll be due for tires by the end of next summer.

LEDs inside and out, I love white interior lights, the tails on this thing right now are fugly. I will likely just trade for clean stocks for now, toss my led reverses in and look into the 13+ LEDs or maybe go aftermarket down the road. The quad lights aren't bad. I like them. Might just go HID. I have good ballasts on the old truck. Just need the right bulbs. I'll probably end up with LED fogs no matter what though.

Farther out I may get a tune, intake, and exhaust. Will definitely be upgrading to MSD coils, will do research on some other light bolt ons and a little dress up. The engine Bay is super clean and I would like to make it pop a little when the hood opens. Killer glass might even get an order from me. :naughty:

Pretty much sums this one up for the intro. Glad to be here. Seems like a pretty decent place. And if there is a build thread section, I must have missed it and feel free to move this to the appropriate section. ea066abfb0b48c7dbed4542519a46fa6.jpg503f93b23c269313607ef4e5001b27aa.jpg1ae5c12b0aef754694b0dc818e7b8fc2.jpg131981924f0545a5e3ffcdc361467185.jpge7e27d4fc72a71a8cadb3bd4d6ac0c47.jpg06d4113d98f4f7fe3156016d0719f9b6.jpge522aa938ed2a9426c8e94cf8846947a.jpg

I got the truck at close on a Wednesday night. Thursday I worked a 16 hour day. Friday was decently short and I wasted no time digging into this truck. I yanked the folding bed cover off, plulled all the lights and siren out of my green truck, mounted the back rack and toolbox, and got to work ripping into the interior. I pulled the back seat and all lower trim panels and rolled the carpet back to tuck the wires away. I ran them through the rear cab vent (god those things are a blessing to have for this kinda stuff). Sadly I had to drill two holes to mount my controller.

For anyone who likes this kinda stuff here's my list of equipment.
Feniex 4200 mini
Feniex Storm Pro 100
Feniex Triton 100
Sho-Me red LED/ white Strobe mini bar
Star signal mini phantoms (2 r/w, 1 r/r)
Code 3 t4 surface mounts (2 r/w not yet mounted, not sure where to go with them just yet, have a couple ideas)
The pods are Type S Bluetooth controlled (I know, I know, AutoZone yikes.) They actually perform very well. They were a impulse buy that truly impressed me and have turned out much better than I was expecting them to. The quality exceeded my expectations, and they are functional and very reliable. I was hoping to be let down so I could return them but they've actually been a very good purchase. They're extremely effective as warning lights and as a work light, and they are built very well. It'll be a couple years with them and no lens fade or moisture intrusion.

I mounted the 4200 mini controller to the center console top. The storm pro behind the panel under the steering wheel, I have a distribution block under the column mounted to the big aluminum bracket that conveniently had two deep holes I was able to tap threads into and use a bolt to secure my distribution block and the relay for it. The wiring under the column is kind of a mess at the moment but I ran out of time this weekend and had everything in the right area so I hooked it all up. I'll clean it all up in the next week or two and get things tidy like I want. This took until 3am Saturday morning and most of Saturday afternoon/night. Everything went smoothly, I just am very picky about how I orient things. The Triton is mounted to the a/c condenser bracket on the right side. I had to drill new holes in the Feniex bracket to move the speaker back so it would clear the grille but not too far or it would hit the condenser. I moved it twice. My first try cleared the grille completely but hit the condenser so I had to give it another go. 2nd try got it perfect.

While I was waiting for some stuff to dry after painting, I also LED swapped the dome lights up front and the one in back. I also tracked the intermittent fog light in/op down to a yellow heat shrink butt connector that was never heat shrunk, and the doofus used the wrong crimpers and punctured the insulation. I'll fix that after work Monday.

I have videos of some of the adventures but for the most part anyone who has this stuff, already knows how to do it and anyone who doesn't have it, probably doesn't care. So here's a couple pics and a video of the finished product.f12c8f0a72e1108dbd98e9affe2cad5e.jpg9ef8830f56f2b769a2ed786519e7dc6c.jpg6cc18676fffd9be51cf9873fdb5a29f4.jpgabcd66f63986d3d1b3877db207ff2ffc.jpg2e8d49ecbc5789abc8be0e8838f5c56d.jpg

Negative on the video. Too large. I have clips in Snapchat that I'll dig up and post. They should fit in the limits for the site.

Good news. Dropped by the Ram dealer today. Found an open recall for the fuel tank bracket. Got that scheduled. Also gonna have the Bluetooth updated as it was still running the old 2.110 software (hoping this allows me to connect my phone to the radio)

I did so e hunting for info on the ITBM and I can get one from another dealer about an hour away most likely. If I can do that soon, I should be able to have the truck reflashed while it's in for recall and the radio update.

Not much else to note yet. Just need to get some stuff sold off and some input from people on a wheel/tire combo and that will keep me moving right along.

Short clip of the lights.

Got my hands on an RC 2.5 leveling kit. Hoping to get that on this weekend. Also have some parts off the old truck that will be gone this weekend so that should cover the brake controller. If that all works out I should be able to get the radio updated, alignment done, and the ITBM turned on when it goes in for the tank bracket recall next week!

After that I'll mock up the 1069s and dune Grapplers and see if I like the look. If so, I'll be looking into adapters.

Not much is gonna get done this weekend. Wife is hosting a bachelorette party so she's gonna be out Saturday through Sunday. Weather is gonna be garbage as well and I'll have our 1.5 year old. Not quite old enough to have her milling about the garage while I wrench on stuff. Oh well.

I did get manage to set the wheels and tires against the factory stuff and the back looks good. The front looked super stuffed. So I took some fender measurements. 35 1/8 up front and a whopping 38 5/8 in back! Holy 3.5 inches of rake Batman! Jesus! Gonna have to get that level on for sure. I'll run that and some adapters until I wear the Dune Grapplers down. Then I might go for a change of wheels. I'll likely swap the spacers for 5100s as well around that time. I've got 5100 leveling struts on the wife's jeep and they made a world of difference.

Sold off a couple old truck parts tonight. Enough cash for me to go hit the dealer and get my brake controller tomorrow. Should work out perfectly.

Alright so after a couple issues, I ended up having to go to a different dealer. This one was an hour and a half away. I made it a half hour before they closed up for the day. And I have to call back Monday to get a PIN for the controller activation. Noted on the directions, didn't realize it until I got home. Other than that, I should be ready to rock for memorial weekend.

Mounted and plugged in. Gotta get it to the dealer for the sway control I think but the screen lights up and it does the initial key on self check.

Also averaged nearly 17mpg today at 80mph on the trip to go get this thing and back. Not bad. I think I could squeeze 20 out of it if I grannied it. 01bd55b43e1dac2355e2e1e72761617c.jpgc82b1f7b2b3b54329d1c66a5a8041fb5.jpg

Traded taillights today! Looking like a civilized truck now! Also tested the 4x4 out a bit tugging a tree around that got knocked down in a storm yesterday. Wasn't much work for the truck. I was flipping the tree around myself but I'm lazy and using the truck was more fun. It was dead as all hell. Had been for years. The roots were even dry and snapped off underground. e2ca2c0e44cecaac97e661b343c981c4.jpgaddbfce8ddc1efdbec355377dc3775b3.jpgd4c9cbdaa19cdf24e60d9b5201d4b6be.jpg79483fc1804a744330de401ea4f7fd08.jpg

Yesterday kinda fell all into place. Work canceled me early so I got the truck in to the dealer in the morning. Camper place called and said the TT is finished. Truck was done by 4pm.

Wheel locks removed, ITBM active, recall handled. Sadly no radio update and I was told that the DRLs couldn't be disabled. Gonna do more digging on that though.

Short day at work today so I'll be picking up the camper. Rain or shine.

Got the camper hauled out and set up. This truck tows so unbelievably well. Even with 30mph cross wind gusts, the truck felt very stable. Enough so that I was perfectly confident towing at 70-80mph. I drive semi for a living so towing for me is something I'm very familiar with and have developed a very finely tuned sense of my comfort zone is.

With 20psi in the in-coil bags, the truck sat level, the trailer sat level, the mirrors allowed great visibility, and the ITBM functioned flawlessly. The steeper inclines slowed me down at highway speeds, but I want expecting 6.7 Cummins performance to begin with. It's a half ton with a six speed auto.

Alright so no big news yet. Got a flat Wednesday. Somehow I picked up an Allen wrench on my way home....... Of course it was the tire in the worst shape so I plugged it. I gotta get on them adapters real soon. It's holding. Luckily the first couple days I had the truck when I was running wires, I got under the passenger seat and freed up the jack hold down bolt and hit it with anti-sieze. Saved me one hell of an ordeal.

I did manage to build some brackets for my mini light bar and mounted it to the headache rack so it's no longer magnet mounted to the roof. So much more professional. Also built some sturdier brackets for my surface mounts and got them mounted and wired, while.i was under the column I cleaned up some.of my wiring mess and ******* some temporary grounds to a permanent location. Emergency lighting situation is right where I want it to be now. No plans to add anything else. Just upgrade stuff as things get old.

Next up will be the pre-load spacers. Then I'm ordering adapters to get my nice wheels on this thing. bb055d367e2bd1f4b8e5181f0c8b14bd.jpgec6dcb0605300209f09aafeb75989e75.jpgbd1c4c4da307d6a3fb21c510e6b671b8.jpgd45594f4f29c6c3bf35434fa934f50cc.jpg66f5e7a179f56937a5e56614d94d50e7.jpg

Thanks for the follow sir! Good to know that simple builds still get some love. Been on a few forums and in a few groups that if you don't aim for SEMA, you ain't sheet.

I have a few small things I'll be working towards on this truck. Primarily the coil spacers and wheel adapters. The tires are not the greatest right now and I'm still recovering form the initial purchase of this thing. So $1500 in tires is not something I'm comfortable with at the moment.

From there I'll be looking to find some black quad headlights. I love the look of them and I think I've found some LED headlights that test exceptionally well in the reflector housings. Third brake will be replaced soon as well, and factory LED tails are in the future for this as funds allow. I like some of the fleabay designs but it's rare that you find good quality lights. So I'm shooting to stick to factory equipment. My one depo headlight already has fog inside it and is beginning to yellow a touch. Ick.

After that it'll be time to get under the hood. I'll be researching intakes and a tune to get rid of the MDS.

I did however spend 8 hours cleaning on this thing yesterday. Solid wash job, heavy cut compound all over (the amount of dried sap on this hoe was RE-TARDED), followed up with lesser cuts down to swirl remover. All done by hand mind you. My arms gave up part of the way through the wax job. Still have the front clip, roof, and full passenger side to wax. But she's shining like new again.

So, coil spacers will not be going on my truck. Over the course of the past two days this thing has fought me tooth and nail eventually resulting in both struts absolutely refusing to come apart. Guess the RC kit will end up in the classifieds and go towards bils and new coils. Nothing like desperately needing tires, having a set of brand new ones laying in the garage and having one more delay in being able to use them......I fought this one to the bitter end. But my current struts have refused to come apart. Leaving me with one option. To get all new stuff. 6cfa033e099c98c7f5477c6284d12af5.jpg818a03a153cb810175b4baf979965978.jpge6b612f8efdc4566ed42dcff6136c43c.jpg94c34aed039d27ac9ac9e0d3cfa0ef35.jpg8ba76ed0859345abacc4f3d7ada59a40.jpg50f9725d4c289faa6cbe2ccdb7ab6c9f.jpg

What seems to be keeping them from separating?
Might need a bigger BFH????

Are you just having trouble getting the struts apart now?

Even on my truck with about 13k miles in rust-free Arizona, I had to cut one of the struts apart with a body saw. They can just be a pain in the ass sometimes I guess.

Yeah the struts refuse to come apart. That top nut will not break loose. So I'm left to buy bilsteins right out of the gate. Which I probably should have done from the start instead of trying to go cheap.
