OK so is this a helper spring or does it replace the factory springs

It does not replace anything except your bump stops. You pull them out and put these in. Simple as that. No worrying about filling bags with air. No worry about leaks or holes. I will say the bags did have a little better ride (more cushy).

Any idea if these will help a lowered truck? Or is it more just for towing/hauling?

No idea. You might want to ask in another area. I just bought these to help with squat on my half ton that i had. I had too much tongue weight on my trailer and didnt want to deal with air bags after trying them and they leaked on me. These helped a lot.
