Hey guys I never realized how much tire pressure can effect ride comfort. From the dealer the tires were inflated to about 44/45psi on all 4 tires and then yesterday I dropped the psi to about 36. The door jam recommends 39 but I like the comfy ride with the lower psi and would sacrifice mpg for comfort. Im lowered so that extra cushion from the tires really help the ride quality. I couldn't believe the difference, I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. What psi do you guys have in your tires and would there be any other negative effects for running the tires lower then recommended ?

that chart is exactly what i was about to write out in words, lol. thanks for saving me the enrgey.

I run the recommended psi so that i dont experience any sort of premature tire ware.

Oh nice picture, very informative. I mean I don't think running -3 psi can make that big of a difference though.

You went all the down from 45 to 36 without trying 39 first? 6 psi over will definitely give you a harsher ride. The more you deflate from spec the worse your tread life and mpg will be, as well as increased risk of tire failure. 36/39 I wouldn't worry about at all if that's what's comfortable to you and you don't mind paying for it, but I'd at least have tried 39 first.

What do you guys run on your 10ply tires for psi for 1500s? I'm using a 34x11 Toyo RT rated for like 3700lbs. I've got them at about 40psi right now and I'm not sure how to determine the best psi with the beefier tires

Does Toyo have a recommended range for inflation? Does it match the TPMS pressure that Ram wants? If so I'd say use that.

fallow the door sticker. it will get the best tire wear and be the SAFEST, tire pressure affects breaking and handling greatly. and accidents can happen because of poor tire maintenance.

the only exception is the 3/4 ton and 1 ton truck that are driving unloaded. they dont need all the load carrying capacity.....until they do.

edit: my statment is for they guys with STOCK tire sizes

I'm not sure I'll have to look into that and contact Toyo, just wasn't sure if someone on the forum already knew ect. I'll find out and post

Run mine at 40 front and rear only due to towing often. When I tow my travel trailer the rears get bumped to 44 and fronts to 42 for the load capacity.

I have mine at 50 psi, Max on my tire is 90 psi.

after 60000km its worn evenly from what I can tell. I do add more PSI to the rear when im towing my trailer.

the 3700 lbs rating is only good at max tire PSI that is written of the side of the tire. if you are not getting the correct tire contact patch with the 10 ply on your truck just do a simple chalk test to see how they are wearing and adjust accordingly. There is a LOT to take into consideration when asking "what tire pressure should I run". it is a very "loaded" question. in the end its all about your contact patch no matter what tire size or PLY you are running. contact patch tells you everything and it changes with every situation.

toyo will tell you to listen to your manufacturer and dont go over the MAX psi of the tire. they cant/shouldn't tell you what PSI to run on your specific truck.

and using a tread depth gauge on the middle and close to the shoulder of the tire will tell you if you are wearing evenly..

I think one more thing to remember is that the tire pressure on the door jam is the recommended cold pressure after being idle.

With all of the suggestions, I also want to add another one. The door jam sticker is for stock tires and rims. Best to follow the label on the tire itself. If you upgrade the tire, the PSI might be different.

My rule of thumb on that is around 5-10psi less from the max. Example...max psi labeled on the tire is 44psi...I would make sure I'm between 35-40psi. But that's just me.
