Well almost to the dreaded 100k mark and I've noticed that my tranny likes to slip a bit on occasion. What should be my first course of action? I was thinkin maybe a shift kit would make the shifts firmer and reduce slippage but I don't know that much about em. I'm not looking forward to replacing it if that's what it comes too.....

Shift kit would hold the pressure higher but would prob just be a band-aid to get ya by. Have your dropped the pan to see if there is any excessive build up?

When was the last time you changed the trans. fluid? That usually helps alot, plus a new filter would also probaly do the trick. Did in mine

What trans is in your truck? Do you have the 46re (I think that is the right name, same one that came in 2nd gen Ram's)?

I think that's what I got, and like I said, a simple transmission fluid and filter change did the trick for mine

It's the 46re, I haven't dipped (dropped, ****** autocorrect) the pan or ne thing yet since it just kinda started. I checked the fluid when I changed my oil the other day and it looked fine, not burnt or dirty lookin at all.

Well I guess I'll price a filter and flush with my boss, maybe he'll let me do it after work in the next week or so.

I got the fluid for 5 bucks a quart plus the filter. Think it was like $35 total

That ain't bad at all, you just did the filter though right? We got a machine at a shop that plugs into the tranny cooler lines and flushes the entire system and puts in fresh fluid.

Yea the only reason I mention it is because that would jump the cost a bit, seeing as all the fluid would be replaced instead of just in the pan.

Yeah but that wouldn't be much would it? The lines don't hold that much fluid when the truck is off right?

I was under the impression that the whole system held like 11 quarts but I could be wrong

Wow! Mine only holds about 6. I know you got the 5.9, but that shouldn't be much difference if we got pretty much the same transmission

I could get you the fluid for just shipping...but you need it sooner than that I suppose...plus, shipping might be pricy on a 25 pound case of ATF...

(I work for an oil company)

Has the trans ever been flushed? I have heard from 5 trans shops saying either ya have to flush every 30k or never touch it with a flush machine.
