I just leased a 2018 Ram 1500 with the V6 and like it very much. My only concern is that it seems to take an awful long time to warm up. What is the normal time it takes to get warm enough to get heat?

Thanks,

Brian

After about 5 minutes of normal driving, longer if you just let it sit and idle. Interesting first question. ;)

I try to let everything run at least 5 minutes when its cold out. If you have time and remote start let it run until it reaches operating temp on the gauge. At the very least year round I let things run until it idles down to its lowest RPM.

Seem to me it always takes about 5 minutes longer than I want.

My 14 Caravan and the 15 Ram are the slowest vehicles to warm up that I have owned so far...BUT...With that being said...The Ram A/C will get the cab like the inside of an IGLOO in an extremely short time during the summer

I had a 2015 Jeep with the 3.6L and it warmed up pretty quick, about normal for a vehicle

What I find usual is that my 2018 Wrangler JL and my 2021 ram V6 have almost the same motor. Even just at idle the RAM takes twice as long to warm up. At first I thought it was just the fact the RAM has a bigger grill and more ventilation but then I realize even at idle the Jeep warms up in about 5 minutes whereas the RAM could stay cold for another 5 minutes even after sitting for idle for 5 minutes. It's really strange I can't figure it out. This winter I'm going to try covering up the grill partially if the temperatures are going to stay below 30 for a while and see if that helps. Another thing to keep in mind is that our Jeep is a soft top lol

As for 2013 an 2014 jeep.
Drive it slow for about mile
Should be good to go,

But Jeep ome thermostats stick open
Not sure it this same problem on the ram. Think it was about $30 fix an was about 45 minutes to fix on jeep.
Normally engine light for this.
U tube as videos for repair.
The only thing I add to it (park it on very steep up hill driveway to work on, keep air out of engine and Ez to bleed air out.
Willie.

Any vehicle, even diesels, you are far better off to start it, let it run about 30 seconds, then GENTLY drive away. Vehicle heats up WAY faster under load, and it also gives the transmission, T Case, and diffs time to warm up gently as you drive. Sitting idling is the least efficient way to warm up a cold vehicle. Even at -30, mine are all pumping out heat by the time I get out of my neighbourhood to the main road, which is about a mile and a half, of driving.
