I've owned it since 2007. Redone interior about 4 years ago. Had it repainted 3 years ago. It took alot of time and patience on the interior cause I painted all the plastic pieces dash door panels etc. Replaced carpet with a rubber floor mat from LMC along with a new dash top from them. A friend of mine painted it for me. I replaced the bed from a rust free truck, left front fender I got online. And replaced cab corners and rocker panels also. They weren't rusty but had paint bubbles everywhere. Right wheel well was rusty and I found that new bed off of 2500 diesel in a junkyard for $200. It's still a work in progress lol. I also put por15 from the rear of the frame to the cab. Also replaced front and rear bumpers the were beat up lol.
What'd I do today? I bought another 2nd Gen Ram 2500, this time with a Cummins 24 valve instead of the Magnum.
What'd I do last Sunday with my 2nd gen? I tried driving a load of firewood home, and hear a rattle, rattle sound I have never heard any engine ever make coming from the Magnum engine. Towed it to the shop to find something busted sending metal shards into the oil making it unfixable.
What'll I be doing with my 2nd Gens the next few weekends? Frankensteining the good bits of the '98 into the '01. Moving the gooseneck hitch, the dashboard and a few other things to the Cummins.
I won't know for a couple weeks until I have time to pull the engine. But from the sound of it (Rhytmic banging, massive loss of power, then the engine locked up as soon as I turned it off) it has to be something piston or rod related. Since I was driving with a soft foot, I assume a fatigue crack started, grew and finally caused a failure. Since fragments made it into the oil pan, I'm guessing it will be a broken rod. I will post once I get the engine out what it turns out to be.
