Hello everyone, I am a new ram owner. Loving it so far. I picked up a good runner with 82k miles that just needs a little TLC.

Anyone know what this part is for? I just got this truck, and found it hanging loose between the bumper and the inner fender. Thanks.

Specs:
2003 5spd 4.7L 4x4 regular cab extended bed. Baseline, no power anything.

I don't have an ambient temp gauge. Would this be installed even without it?

Yes I also have that and I believe it is used for the temp gauge in the cluster when you swap your trip meter.

Never realized there was a temp gauge there. Will have to play.

Thanks all!

Yeah at least mine has it. When you hit the trip button to co to the trip mileage hit it one more time. Should bring up a temp gauge. Most people do not even realize it is there because they reset the trip meter and let it go back to the regular mileage by itself.

There should be a flat spot on that bottom bolt on the driver's headlight. If you have aftermarket (non-oem) headlights, you may not have that flat spot. A dremel will quickly fix this.

I just checked. I do not have a temp gauge when I cycle through the odometer and tripmeter.

it is a temp sensor for sure just because it is not on cluster it does not mean the truck does not use it

I know some manufacturers put sensors on that aren't used just because it is cheaper on the assembly line. Not saying that is the case here. But why else would a vehicle have an ambient air sensor, without the gauge?

My Audi has tons of them for climate controls, uses a temp difference from outside to inside to determine levels. But this is no Audi...

Its for the overhead console not the cluster but regardless, it is the ambient temp sensor. Could just be prewired for those who want to install a overhead console from SLT+ models. Same with models also having prewired wiring harness for fogs (lower drivers side) but no switch or fogs.

See circle area of where it should bolt up to per HemiLonstar

Yup. That's what I figured. Cheap sensor vs. expensive assembly differences.

I installed a power driver seat when I had my '08 SLT. It was built with a manual seat but the harness was wired for a power seat. Even had the fuse installed in the box.

Nice. Maybe someday, I'll look into adding features.

On the 02-05s (for sure) the air temp readout will be in the little trip computer integrated with the map lights on the SLT and higher trucks.
