I am not referring to tow capacity...I am referring to payload capacity. Towing capacity means next to nothing on a half ton truck..its all about the payload capacity (ie for my Hemi Laramie, with family in the truck and fuel, I had 420 lbs left over....I put a 34 travel trailer I wanted that had a 7500 GVW and a tongue weight of about 975-1125lbs and I am way, way over payload capacity) and right at or over the rear axle weighting. Needless to say I didnt get the trailer

I was just wondering what your payload sticker was (as they are far different than what is listed on the Ram website). I bought my Ram in March without realizing they had the lowest payload capacity of any full size truck:( Costly mistake on my part:doh2:

Payload is a real bit** on the Laramie, isn't it? I have 270 left after the family is loaded and my TW is a little over 600lbs. So I will bounce over by around 400 minus what the bars transfer back to the trailer :( Not much I can do I guess. The reality is- Ram payload sucks, but it makes me wonder sometimes if other manufacturers are optomistic? Who knows...

My fault I read it wrong. Payload is 6900. In reality I'm right there or a little over. I have the load transfer hitch and TLC system on it also. I have no problem with bouncing or swaying going down the road. The picture is before the TLC system. Style no problem but the bags help it sit level.

6900 is you GVWR. Payload is the GVWR minus curb weight. Usually around 1000-1400lbs. With that 7100 lbs dry weight, bet on about 8000- 8200 loaded with options like LP, microwave and battery and your gear. Thats a minimum tongue weight of 800-820 lbs @ 10%. Just a guess on figures. I'm not preaching for sure, I go over too. Just giving you a broad view of payload ratings. It gets eaten up REAL quick. Some guys are comfortable going over a bit, some guys get squeamish if they even get within 200lbs of max. I am the former within reason.

A full tank of fuel should already be included in your payload, so should the driver I believe.

I believe you are correct. That is why I went to a cat scale and had it weighed to see exactly where I was at for the truck as well as each axle. To say it was an eye opener is an understatement. Some of the lower trim models have a lot more payload capacity as the moonroof, running boards, leather and power seats etc etc really add the weight. My wife's 2012 town and country limited minivan has more payload capacity than my 2013 Laramie!!! Where boats don't have much tongue weight, campers have a good bit more and that was my issue . I was shocked to say the least:(

All that being said the most I have towed with mine has been a 12x7 trailer with two quads on it and another youth quad in the bed. Sad to say the truck knew it was loaded down and that was only with a 3000lb trailer and maybe another 400lbs in the bed:(. I love my ram but I am ordering a 2014 3500ctd to rectify my issues

This is our toy hauler it's around 6000lbs dry. Truck is a 2013 5.7, pulls it great better than my 2010 Tundra 5.7.

^ The Tradesman is the ideal tow vehicle. Less fancy-schmancy parts to break and weigh you down.
Had we realized this when buying, we may have an Express instead of our Sport. Now all we can do is upgrade to a 2500.

I pull a 20' enclosed with either a 1000 lbs sand rail or a 3600 lbs drag car. Either way the truck does pretty good. I've had Cummins before and they deff have the torque but for what the Hemi is I was impressed.

It's the biggest and only thing I tow but I drag it all over the place and the truck just eats it up.

Hey Turblown03, what part of the state are you in? (I'm actually over in Big Water, UT).

Nice to know there is another serious Terminator lurking around here somewhere!

A little bit of a cheat; My '07 towing out to Famoso Raceway a few years back. Close to 3000# for the car, probably another 1400# or so for the trailer.

Stock '07 1500 QC 4x4 with the 5.7 and Tow Package with the 3.92's. Did great, with a little squat due to the borrowed trailer - I didn't quite have the correct height drop hitch for it.

Yep, I went through this when my wife and I was looking at TT so I said that I wasn't going to make this mistake twice so I went with the 2500 Hemi.

Wow, I like that trailer you don't by any chance have any inside pics do you? Is it two slide or three slides, I see that you have a new ram pulling that now?
