Anybody else notice this? I did rread where one member replaced the liner I think it was. Cant remember the details or if it was a HD truck. I was out camping this summer and we were in a real bad storm. It was raining buckets and I had to open my hood. Water came gushing out of where the light is! Now, I watch it after a wash. I notice the weather stripping is not doing a good job. Took it to dealer and of course they didnt see a problem. All they did was clean the (mildew ?) off the liner. Its going back in next week. I bought a bunch of clips for the liner and will try to nail this but would like some help. There is also water sitting inside the holes where the tape is (underside of hood). If you spray water near the edge of the hood , you will get water inside the engine compartment. Not necessarily on the engine though.

Interesting, I just popped my hood earlier this afternoon to check the oil and noticed the same white powdery staining. Mine is more concentrated on both sides directly under windshield washer fluid nozzles.

My initial speculation was the white powdery stuff is not mildew but water staining from the washer fluid leaking at the nozzles and the dried powdery stuff is just cleaner concentrate from the washer fluid. The hood and liner slopes down with the two channels in the liner towards the front and that seems to be were the staining is migrating from.

Hmmm. I'm going to pull the liner off and have someone spray the fluid and take a closer look. I know that the weather stripping is terrible on these trucks. Try spraying water with a hose and you'll see what I mean. I always get water in their after washing truck.

The dealer never see"s a problem. Mine makes a popping noise in the front and there suspension guy couldn't duplicate it on a test drive. I'll check my 1500 tomorrow and see if it's been wet.

Not denying your claim of water intrusion, just I thought it was interesting on my vehicle anyways that the large concentration of the white powdery crystallization was directly under where the two nozzle were.

I was too lazy to peel mine back and look and also had heard the push fasteners that hold the blanket on are not that easy to remove without destroying them.

I hear you. It could be both problems on my end. All i know is that one day we were camping there was a tornado warning. I never seen it rain like that before . It was in colden ny. We were packing up to get out of there and i was looking for a spare fuse in my box under the hood.Thats when I opened the hood and water was gushing out right where the light is. Now, when i wash the vehicle it doesnt get that bad. Idk , Im going to have to do some testing here.
Youre right about those clips. They go in with two little tabs that are shaped like a "V". The pointed end goes in the hole. They dont want to come out without breaking them. i just bought 20 after market ones for $7 on ebay. that should get me through the testing phase :)

Of course they dont. Go with them on a test drive and point it out to them. Idk if your hood is the same. The slope might be different as well as the weather stripping?

I dunno about the insulation being wet or getting wet. I just remember when I bought my ram last month brand new, when I detailed under the hood I wondered how all that crap and dirt already got inside the engine bay. It was pure filth.

Since the detail, Ive driven plenty times in the rain and the bay area still looks good. Perhaps the mudlfaps helped who knows.

I'll keep an eye on the hood liner and report back.

Check to make sure your weather stripping near the wipers makes contact with the hood. If it has a gap water could slide down the hood into the insulation especially in the heavy rain.

My 2009 has been cross country in numerous heavy rainstorms and I don't have any water marks on the hood insulation.

Yeah. Me and a friend tried that. I put some light under the hood and closed it. Didn't see any light so....I'm going to be reporting back with results. I'll see what the dealer says after I tell them "look , Wtf" also. If you guys want to try it, hold a hose next to the hood a where it meets the windshield bottom. See if you get any water under there. You might have to give it a good dose though Idk. to be continued....

Ok. So......I held a hose right where the hood meets all around . Some water came in but it wasn't bad. I took the liner off today and sprayed the washer fluid . It was oozing just as hoot said. Now I have to tell them how to fix the problem. Imagine that. Thanks guys.

Where is it "oozing"? Is it where the hose goes in the nozzle attachment or the nozzle attachment itself?

Thanks

I didn't have time to look at it. I just figured now that you diagnosed the probleml , I can tell the "techs", what it is and they can fix it. Thanks again.

Thanks

White deposits on hood liner

I have those crusty deposits too. My 2025 Ram 2500 with Cummins diesel had them when I first brought it home. I scraped them off and vacuumed up the mess. A few months later they were back.

Mine was the nozzle leaking just like hootbro said. Kudos to him for diagnosing what a tech couldn't. It's a shame we have to come on the internet to get our $50 k trucks fixed or at least figure out what's wrong with them. I had them replace the nozzles and the liner.

Thanks for this information. I just noticed the white crusty stuff yesterday. There s÷ms to be an awful lot to come from the washer nozzles but it makes sense. Im waiting for my 1st oil change to bring it in. Fortunately this is the only issue so far.

I do find it interesting that everybody here who has complained so far has been a 2015 Heavy Duty model.
