I've got to start by saying how impressed with Crutchfield I am.
I placed an order around 2PM today and it shipped this evening!

Talk about speedy quick!

Now the details. I am starting with the bass section of my stereo, I'll move forward from there (amp'd components and a signal processor)

Anywho, what I ordered:

Kicker Solobaric L7 (I've always wanted one, the neighbor kid in HS had one and it amazed me)
Alpine MRP-M500 Amp

and the subsequent wiring for it.

I'm working through the mental math as to just how I'm going to get at least 2 cubic feet of space for the thing behind my seat, and maximized usable remaining area. (I'm open to suggestions here!)

I'm pretty damned excited to get this all in and working.

I hope that you are correct.

The RMS rating of the amp is towards the upper end of the rating on the L7.
I am hoping this will sound as good as I feel it should.

Don't worry, I'll have a complete build thread when I get it all together.
I've got a bunch of different ideas I'm going to construct from cardboard first, see how it all goes.

Good stuff.
You can never have too much power for a sub, if common sense is in the house.
Amps are not 100% efficient, and rarely receive the voltage they need to produce their rated power so extra is always good. Then you can use some headroom to play music with less bass as loud as the material which has it in plenty, so again, extra is always good. I overpower my subs by 50% to make sure I have enough. The remote gain knob never exceeds 25%, but wouldn't you rather have too much than not enough?

That is the ONLY complaint I have about this amplifier, No remote gain.
I am not the type to blow stuff up by running it to hard, I think this will be a nice clean setup.

I will be running a sealed box.
I don't know enough to design a proper ported box, so I'll stick with what I do know.

Sealed will be fine, be nice if amp had more power...sealed eats up the power.

I think I'll have far more bass than I'll ever need, which is just about perfect!

I'm making a mock up of the box I want to build as we speak. I'll try to get some pictures of it 'in place' in the truck soon.

It's going to be a down firing box, with about a 2.5" gap for the woofer. I'm going to make all sides but the back from MDF. Going to fiberglass the back to maximize internal volume (and, truthfully, I've always wanted to try fiberglass again).

Going to be a slow moving project for a while. On travel this weekend, and next I get to do a heater core in the old man's truck. So that puts me to the middle of March minimum!

The nerd in me wants to ask for pics of your wire runs and not just another finished shot of a box under the back seat, but I'm holding it back. WAIT-

3 shots of my mock up box. Made with 1/4" foam board to see if it'll fit in the truck where and how I want.
This did reveal that my original concept might be to small to fit the woofer itself! Blast!

The back edges and bottom edges are left long to 'trim to achieve maximum space' inside the box with what I have in the truck.

The subwoofer itself will be down firing, so I don't have to worry about clearance to the seat back.
I think I'll have about 3" of clearance from the mounting surface of the woofer to the floor. Should be alright.

Brings up a question. Is there any reason NOT to center the woofer in the box?
It's going to be run sealed, so I don't need to offset it for a port.

..?

Unfortunately, for the time being, there will only be a power wire run.
I'm running high level inputs off the rear speakers *gasp* FOR NOW.

If you'd really like, I can post pictures of that. hahaha :winner_first_h4h:

Is that box going behind the seat? It's going to be sick! Might be making my own box for a new sub soon.

Yes. The intent of it is to be entirely behind the driver seat, and leave all of the middle and pass side open. Also, it should allow for my portable (collapsible) dog kennel to still fit in behind the seats w/o issue. Should also allow for full range of motion of the seat (very limited by the cab wall as it is!)
