Ya really! I put my seat pretty far up, so I have more room. But still your mock up looks pretty awesome.

Ha! I'm 6'4, I have the seat 1 'click' from as far back as it'll go unless I'm on the open road, then it's normally all the way back.

Wow, we'll I'm like 5'9" but I keep my seat way forward. I think I have like 15 inches of room from the back wall of the cab to the seat.

Really torn on box design for this whole project.

After messing around with my mock up box for a down-firing setup, I'm not real sure I can make the box I desire. Kind of thinking of going with a simple upward firing box that sits behind the driver / middle seat. Just a long rectangle.

Also kind of making me think about replacing the center console with a neat-o integrated subwoofer box style unit.

Too many damned ideas. Might just build the rectangle box to get it in, and get some bass. I'll still have plenty of MDF left over to build something else if I so desire.

Kind of like the idea of making the truck more 'custom' and more 'mine' but I also want something that'll look professional / quasi 'belongs'. In my college truck I had a single 10" in a quickly made / carpeted box. It was highly functional, but quite ugly.

What ohm sub is the L7? If it's a dvc 4ohm you can wire the sub in-series and get 500 watts from your m-500.

Have you thought of moving the box to the passenger side? Then you can make a custom box without sacrificing your valuable cab room on the driver side. Too bad you're not in ABQ I'm on spring break and could probably help you out.

I honestly go out of my way to not adjust my driver seat. So I always put stuff behind the pass seat. I hate trying to find that perfect 'notch' on the recline. Hence I want it behind the driver's seat.

I do appreciate the thoughts! I'm going to start messing with it this weekend. we'll see what comes of it all. I'll try to remember to take pictures along the way. I know how everyone loves pictures!

Finally got a template I like, has the right air space, and uses simple angles (30/60/90)
Unless the weather turns to **** today *which it looks like it might* I should have this largely created by the end of the day.

Hooray table saw! I know that every 'adjsutable' piece on my Dad's old table saw is wrong (The fence has to me trued everytime you adjust it, the 'measuring tape' on it is totally wrong too! Oh yea, and the 'blade angle indicator' is off like 5°) so it took forever to setup. But here's all the box pieces short the 'ends' of the box if you will.

Thanks to some *******(s) at Kicker, even with the proper sized hole saw...
IMAG0700_zpsd3064baa.jpg

(Notice I was even a bit OUTSIDE the template lines?)

The subwoofer doesn't fit in the hole! I tried to slide the provided template over the sub... No go, by like 1/8" in both directions! AHHH!

So, much time with a drum and palm sander later...

I finally got that last little bit trimmed off and the sub fits like a champ.

Went to town and got some stainless (why not?) Cap head allen bolts and tee nuts.
If I wasn't going skiing today (closing weekend) I'd make tons more progress today.

Moar pictures to come, I promise!
