Lots of great responses. Thanks.

Is it safet to say the majority of the nuts and bolts are metric on theses trucks. Since I sold my '72 K5 and bought my 2500 I have been lacking in my metric tools as I rarely needed them.

Just can't seem to find a good quality metric crescent wrench!:nutkick::nutkick:

I got a couple more things I want to get to add to the list haha.

Its a never ending list.... once you get everything on it, you put more on the list....

We got to a point where we made a shop tool truck... the Ranch owner bought a old snap on truck and it became the Mobile Shop... And that still wasn't big enough so there is a trailer too... That's what happens when you let your list go to far.

!/2 drive and 3/8 drive sockets sets both SAE and Metric, screwdrivers and different types of plyers and wire cutters, set of open and boxed end wrenches. Jumper cables, tow strap, bungy cords and tie down straps, hitch with 2",2 1/4 and 2 5/16 ball. Oil, gallon of water, extra serp. belt, electric impact with deep well sockets 22mm, 15/16, 7/8, a breaker bar and a 4 way wrench. High lift portable folding floor jack, 10T pop bottle jack and a 12" piece of 2x6, lazer thermometer and an air gauge. Jumper wires a bunch of fuses and a flashlight. Last but not least--DUCT TAPE.
No wonder my tool box is so heavy and my 60ft times are measured in minutes. :naughty:

I hit up NAPA and bought individual sockets in the most common sizes found on my truck along with a cheap (but not poor quality) ratchet and a couple extensions, a couple of combo wrenches also in the most common sizes (the combo wrenches and the sockets/ratchet, I have two of just in case I encounter a nut and bolt that decide to free spin and I need tension on both), star bit and allen wrench tools, some basic screwdrivers, pliers of various types and a hammer. I keep them in an aluminum SportLock pistol case which I re-purposed into a tool case - just cut the foam to fit the tools instead of a pistol... lol

I usually carry a fire extinguisher, tow rope and a basic tool kit. Didn't want a full tool box in the bed so I bought this instead. Love it, perfect for what I need to store.

I also have this tool box and love it also. I never thought about getting this because I never carried tools in my vehicles before. I had a small puncture in my tonneau cover and when I contacted the company they offered to send that out for free instead of sending my cover back. In the last couple of days I have stored a portable shovel, measuring tape, bungee cords, toilet paper, and tow straps and because of this thread will be buying a few more items to store in that tool box. And if i run out of room I might purchase another one for passenger side and may use it as a cooler.

This thread morphed into more than I thought, in a good way. While had tools are what my original questions was about I do carry other gear in the chest I mentioned. So I don't feel left out I will list what I currently carry, sans hand tools.

In lower consel:
Bushnell 10x40 binocs
ESEE 6 knife w/kydex sheath
2 extra 7 round M&P 40 s&w Shield Mags
2 packs of Lysol wipes

In Mega Cab part of cab
Eating Campers Axe 26"
Large First Aid Kit
6pack 1 liter water bottles
Packable picnic blanket. Approx 48"x72"

In large chest against front end of truck bed:
8 quarts Pennzoil 0w-40 and Royal Purple Filter
Several Rags
20 ton bottle jack and several pieces a of 2x6
Smaller picnic blanket to lay on under truck.
WD40
4-end Lug wrench. (Star lug wrench?) Easier than factory lug wrench.
Spare 2" ball and hitch. 2 5/16" pintle is on truck hitch
Canvas bag of bungee cords and 4 ratchet straps
Hand cleaner in tube
Older beach towel folded - various uses.

Bag #1 - Canvas tool bag kept insides chest - Contents include
ARB tire dial tire gauge with stem valve remover
Extra air stem chuck thingy
Pair of leather gloves
Pair of insulated leather work gloves
15' section of clear PVC 3/8"ID tube for siphoning
Tube of black high temp RTV
Stick of radiator/gas tank puddy repair
Roll of duct tape
Roll of electrical tape
6 assorted hose clamps
Tire patch repair kit
100' 550 cord

Bag #2 - Second nylon tool bag kept in chest: tow and extrication related.
2- 3" X 30' tow straps
1- 2" X 20' tow strap ----- You can never have too much strap!
4 - 18" axle straps
2 - large shackles
Leather work gloves. ----Yes, literally have 5-6 pairs stashed around the truck.
Older but good pair of snow ski gloves
2 more ratchet straps
2 large 2" 30' HD truckers ratchet straps.
NOS military folding shovel
Small Gerber camp hatchet
Other small misc items

Now I just need to get my hand tool lined up and out into chest or in MC area of cab.

Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks guys.

I see this thread turning into an "I got more stuff in my box than you" thread. Hopefully folks will see it and become prepared.

Don't think it will. Most of the stuff I carry I may never use. I tend to over pack and over prepare for everything. Almost like its a problem I have. Shoot, when I go on a long weekend to say Vegas most people only have a carry on bag. Me, usually a checked rolling duffle. My wife's SUV and my work truck both have GHBs in them. Yeah, I gots problems.

It's good to be prepared. Our country is at uncertain times right now, I'm adamant about my EDC.

For me this thread is making me buy things that I probably will never use, but over time it may become useful. Hell if I didn't read some threads on tires I would have never bought mud tires, but 2 weeks ago I put them on my truck and couldn't be happier. Of course I'm being made fun of by coworkers because I live in NY but for me these threads have been helpful and fun and making me broke. LOL

Lol.. Some of you guys have 500lbs of **** in the back of your trucks! Thats awesome. I just have the basics, but my favorite item is a 4x6 rug (decorative kind) that someone gave me. I keep it rolled up in the toolbox for when I transport anything and I dont want to scratch my bedliner, or the item. Other than that, my tire plug kit, 12v air compressor, tow straps, hitch and hook, mechanics gloves and a **** ton of glow sticks, WD-40 and duct tape!

I've got a basic tool set, duct tape, jumper cables, etc. I saw someone mention a 2x4 which I want to re-emphasize. A 2x4, 2x6, or 2x8 can be extremely useful if you pop a tire in the snow, on a muddy road, or in a field. That jack will sink right into the ground without the hunk of flat wood to distribute the weight.

For those of you in cold climates, make sure to also have an emergency weather kit. Extra jacket, hat, gloves, granola bars, light sticks, etc. You never know when you are going to get stuck somewhere in the cold and you don't have warm gear.

:roflsquared::roflsquared: TRUE... But the only thing I keep in my chest box, and the only reason is I put it in, it my turn out gear, since I respond out of multiple stations I just keep my gear with me.

I was going to go somewhere else with a response but decided to keep it clean...

Actually I had a little over 1100lbs at one time (put the fat pig on a scale with and without the 3 tool boxes... but it was also my ranch truck as well as daily driver.

Hm, okay... The truth is that you can't be 100% prepared for everything. I keep the stuff in my truck that I would in a situation out on the road, whether it be getting home, breakdowns, stuck. I'd just rather have it and not need it, not having it has come back to bite me before.

Me too, and very true but for me it always happens when I'm in the vehicle without all my tools...
I kept a lot of recovery stuff, tools spare parts in the ZR2 but that's cause its wheeled.. When I build it it will have everything needed, onboard air, power inverter maybe even a small 110 welder for trail repair.. but that is alot different than just what you need to get home on your daily driver... My 07 was kinda more than a daily so that's why I had so much in it being that I worked out of it.

Yeah, I understand about that. That's what would happen to me... I would take something out thinking I never use it and the next day something happens where I need it.

Let's see I carry

1. 75 peace socket set.
2. A jump starter.
3. WD-40 - Always a handy item to have.
4. Screw drivers - Yet another basic tool to have around.
5. Windex - Never know when that glass is going to need cleaning.
6. Rags
7. Tie down straps - Wouldn't be a truck without those.
8. Snow brush
9. Towel
10. A fold away stool.
11. Head light and tail light bulbs.

There maybe other items I'm forgetting but I have in the truck. :)

The stuff i carry is in case I might break down and need it, but another reason, and almost as important to me anyway, is the ability to be able to stop and help someone that is stranded and either can't or doesn't have the tools or equipment to help themselves. There is nothing better than the look on their face when you have helped them out of a jam, or a firm handshake and a "Thank You". You never know--what goes around, comes around.
