Today I took that necessary deep breath and pulled together the parts I ordered last week, and finally installed the cabin air filter per the mod outlined above. I bought the cover online for about $12, and the filter for $7.50. I took out the glovebox again after confirming several weeks ago that the molding marks were there to guide my cut for the lid. I tried to use a utility knife but got nowhere fast. I then remembered that I had purchased a "Roto-Zip" tool several years ago when doing some redecorating in the house, having to cut in some outlets in new wallboard. I got out my corded drill and fired up that little rascal and in less time than it took me to drag out the drill and the cord I had the hole cut. The tool is beveled to eject the cuttings to the drill side and I got no plastic crap out of the vents when I fired up the heater and defroster a few minutes later, so I'm happy. You just have to be a little careful to guide the tool with a little care. Truth is cut it in less than a minute. DONE!

Now, about that front bumper with the prang in it from that rock outcropping!

I’m 4 years too late to this party (14 1500 Express) but I’m doing this mod next. Thanks for the pics, part numbers and insight & advice everyone.

For everyone that's done this mod, remember to check your filter. I just replaced mine after about 12 months and damn it was filthy!!!! I just installed one of the Fram filters with carbon and baking soda.

Just ordered mine from Geno’s.

What’s the typical replacement on these filters?

About every 6 months/6000 miles?

It will obviously vary based on location: urban/suburban vs. the country.

Got it done today. That door was such a PITA to get latched.

I’m now part of the CAF mod club.

I remember when I first purchased my ram back in 2015 that I had posted about when I switch off the AC then a few mins later turn it back on, I was experiencing steam blowing out of the center vents. I'm assuming the moisture created causes the mold on the filter? It's on both sides, that is if it's mold. No doubt the nature of the FL humidity here. However, fortunately, no weird smells yet.

I rarely use recirculation with AC either.

Thanks, just did this on mine, super easy upgrade.
The only thing is for some odd reason the wix filter I got did not have directional arrows for airflow, does it matter that much which way it goes in there? Or is it just so you don't flip it around when you take it out?

I would not loose any sleep over no arrow! The air will flow through it! In most cases when there is a arrow some filters have a bit more support on the exit side, , Check you cabin af in about 6 months or sooner if you live in a dusty area

Wonder if the fan is the same even after they start putting in the cabin filters?

I have a 2018 Express I just purchased. So my truck should have the filter? Or is it only higher models such as the Big Horn?

I will look anyway, but had to ask. :p

Ordered the kit from Geno's a few days ago. It arrived early today and only took 15minutes to install. Thanks to everyone who has put tips up on this thread, it greatly helped me get this done quickly.
