Today I took that necessary deep breath and pulled together the parts I ordered last week, and finally installed the cabin air filter per the mod outlined above. I bought the cover online for about $12, and the filter for $7.50. I took out the glovebox again after confirming several weeks ago that the molding marks were there to guide my cut for the lid. I tried to use a utility knife but got nowhere fast. I then remembered that I had purchased a "Roto-Zip" tool several years ago when doing some redecorating in the house, having to cut in some outlets in new wallboard. I got out my corded drill and fired up that little rascal and in less time than it took me to drag out the drill and the cord I had the hole cut. The tool is beveled to eject the cuttings to the drill side and I got no plastic crap out of the vents when I fired up the heater and defroster a few minutes later, so I'm happy. You just have to be a little careful to guide the tool with a little care. Truth is cut it in less than a minute. DONE!
Now, about that front bumper with the prang in it from that rock outcropping!
