2019 Problem & Fix Thread

As being a brand new model year, we are going to deal with some growing pains. It makes sense to list out all the problems and fixes here, so people can quickly find what they are looking for. I will list a few things I have issues with so far or have seen others have, anyone else post and I will update the main post.

I also want to notate I have ordered these in what seem to start with the most common issues, so the bottom the list will be more one-off or single occurance issues.

Squeaking Brakes - No fix yet, have read squeak goes away after around 3k miles.

Whistling Noise at highway speeds - No fix found, but it has been determined shutting off re-circulated air is a temporary fix.

Sirius Guardian not working - No fix to date

12.1" Screen dead - Restart truck, if still no luck then dealer reflash.

Car Play not working - Ensure "use car play while phone is locked" is turned on your iPhone, unplug and replug in your iPhone, or try using a different cable (preferably Apple brand)

Navigation Prompt no sound (no sound from left front) - Restart truck

Sirius reverts to Ch 1. - Only happen after sitting for extended period - no fix.

Water in Cab/Leaking - Possible plugged Sunroof Tube or Third Brake Light. (Dealer Warranty Fix)

AC Auto Temp slow to adjust - No fix to date.

Right Rear Window Hitch in Track - No fix to date.

A/C Static Sound - No fix to date.

Interior Trim not flush - Dealer fix.

I have the whistling noise but, it isn’t noticeable unless my truck is silent. Guardian works for me, what issues are you having? My brakes (specifically my left rear) are starting to squeal. I’ve dealt with this on all of my Dodge vehicles - I do hope it goes away though. Bedding didn’t fix it.

As a side note, this thread should be merged with Darkness’ as the information is redundant.

Guardian is fine for me - just saw others have an issue.

The whistling noise is going to be person dependent I think, because it so high pitched. Like how I can tell one of my TVs is left on but my parents wouldn't be able to tell. It will probably depend on age and hearing.

I am fine with it merging - just move all the info above into the first post so people can quickly find what they need. I hate digging through threads so figured it would be better if everything was quickly accessible.

I currently have three of those issues however the CarPlay issue is intermittent. Dropping her off at the dealer in an hour so I’ll update with whatever they tell me. I also just ordered an Apple branded USB-C to Lightning cable to see if that makes any difference with the CarPlay.

I would like to know if the USB-C chargers any faster. The wireless charging is pretty slow. Regular USB is ok but not as quick as home.

just asking ......what do you guys use carplay for the most? I'm just asking because I just Bluetooth it and leave it on the charging pad. The only thing I could see carplay for is the maps if I don't use the NAV in the car. I love that charging pad...........in my GMC I always plugged it up to keep it charged.

I think the charger that comes with usb-c is what makes it charge fast. Not sure if the USB-C to lightning will.........I have that setup in the house. But I'm no Apple Tech or anything. My battery is usually quite full and I find the charging pad to be adequate.

You can control everything from the dash, be it your Apple Music app, phone, whatsapp, Pandora, etc. no need to look at the phone.

Also, for the record, I have 3,200 miles and my squealing is just getting worse. Seems to be worst when the truck was sitting for a while and they’re cold.

Maps and Amazon music is what I use it for the most. Maps because the voice search for the built in Nav is horrendous and it’s much easier to use Siri. Amazon music because I subscribe to Amazon Music because the kids use it all over the house (7 different Echo devices in my House and Outside). Carplay gives me an easier interface to navigate the app (but no voice search) to play playlists and radio stations with out having to fumble with the phone while I am driving.

I activated the 6 month subscription to Apple Music and while I much prefer that interface (again because I can just tell Siri what I want to listen to) I can’t really justify it with all the Amazon devices we already have throughout the house.

I don't navigate much...........but I did use the truck NAV once and it was pretty good to use for me. Also, I used the Uconnect app and actually sent an address straight to the truck. Now that was cool because most times I'm looking up the place on my phone while I wait for my wife (like we prob all do)

In September we will be able to use Waze for nav, which is great for speeders.

Yes, Pandora should work the same. You will be able to browse history or start new stations or existing playlists from the screen. Not sure if Siri (or Google Voice) will work with it though as I don’t use Pandora.

As for the navigation, the built in Nav works fine if you are able to look it up from your phone and use send and go or be at a stop and enter it in manually. The problem is when you want to route somewhere while you are driving.

Short rant but the passenger seat recognizes when there is someone sitting in the seat so there should be a waiver button that you can press to get the full menu while you are driving saying that you are the passenger and not operating the vehicle. It drove me crazy in my old truck that my wife can’t put in an address while we were driving. Hence why I use CarPlay. Also I’ve noticed that I can navigate the menus while I’m driving but I can’t change some of the settings. Like the theme for example. I can browse to themes, see the available ones but when I click on one to change it it tells me that I can’t do it while the vehicle is in motion. Seems silly since I made it far enough to see them and select one. Just change it already instead of making me read an error message while I’m driving. (End rant)

Well, just dropped it off at the dealer. There is some body work getting done so they put me in a rental. (2017 Ram v6 Tradesman Quad w/ 26k miles).

As for the black screen, one of the sales people said that they just need to flash an update on it. I’m a little skeptical but fingers crossed. I really want to get back in my truck already.

I had the same problem with mine and I replaced it with an Apple USB-C cord and it works perfect now.

There were two small door dings on pickup. Dealer is taking care of it, I asked for the scratch and dent sale but they insisted on on fixing it. Honestly it’s going to happen anyway and the first one is the hardest so I figured it would just get them out of the way. [emoji3]

If I absolutely have to park next to other cars I usually raise it up to OR2 and put out the running boards. Little in life gives me more pleasure than seeing other peoples paint on my running boards and trailer hitch. I hate people who swing their doors open with no regard for the car next to them.

Only 600 miles in but have had the screen issues on the 12”. From being blank -I switch to nav and back to radio and it came back to it being locked ... pressing anything on the screen doesn’t work at all. Restart and it was fine. Will need to look into getting it flashed.

Squeaking brakes - bed your pads and season your rotors. Also, pull the pads and add come copper grease to the backing plates.
