So what happens if I bolt on 20" tires and wheels from a 2018 ram 1500 to a 2016 ram 1500.
Without doing anything else. Same 40PSI tires. Going from 31 ish to 33.
I HAVE alfaOBD but I hesitate to use it.
What will I see?

I did it, but with a much heavier LT tire. Your speedo will be about 3-4 mph off. If it reads 60 on speedo, you will be doing 63/64 true. At worst, the dealer can flash it to 275/60/20 then your good.
Taller tire/heavier tire and same gears will affect your acceleration, mpg, braking, but its close enough to be no worry.

So there will be no TPMS errors (2016 to 2018) and no traction control or any other errors except speedometer mismatch?
If so, I can live with that.

You’re good to go ... I’ve lived with the speedo diff for a while ... Doesn’t bother me a bit ... I went 33” to 35” in the summer

Does anyone have some input on what is the difference in ride quality in going from the tall sidewall 17" tires to the shorter sidewalls on the 20"'s with a regular tread street tire?

its definitely not horrible on 20's. You might feel some more imperfections in the roads but its not going to be unpleasant by any means

This is always subjective but you’ll typically see an improvement if you’re looking for a “better” ride. More sidewall will absorb more shock and vibrations from the road, the trade off being a touch more tire roll when cornering at higher speeds.

This a a very abbreviated description....

My 70 series 17's have a supremely smooth ride, for a truck. I expect the 60 series 20's will have a bit firmer ride and a bit better handling as has been said. Let you know soon enough.

You can fix the speedo with Alfaobd. Check that thread in this forum (4th gen DIY section)I've seen the procedure described.

Yes as I said, I have AlfaOBD and have been in my trucks computer, but have not done anything. From all the trouble people have with it I may never use it.
But I probably will at some point.

When I went to a 20” wheel with 55 sidewall it felt likeI couldnt make it push in a corner. I just eats up turns and feels planted. It was night and day compared to the 17” with a 70 sidewall...probably a huge part of it was dumping those dog**** SR-A’s though. And maybe 2.1 Bilsteins...and maybe a a fat AT tire 3” wider...ehhh guess to many variables all changed at once.

You gotta give your TPMS a few miles ... Are the 17’s still in the bed ?

No not in the bed. I went for about a 12 mile ride and the tpms was reading steady. Not going up with the heat. Then about 11 miles in it went blank and the tpms warning message started and then the light started flashing. Maybe it will fix itself tomorrow.

AlfaOBD cant fix tpms if the sensors are not there.
