I’ve got a 17 ram 1500 4x2 tradesman 5.7 and am looking to replace a set of BF Goodrich advantage ta sport lt in 265/70/R17

I don’t go off road aside from the occasional trail to a canal in SW Florida while fishing.

What I’m shooting for is a better traction tire with maybe thicker shoulders and decent lugs for some tighter packed sand.

The tires I’ve been looking at:
-Nitto Terra Grappler g2 approx $800 (65k)
- Firestone Transforce at2- approx $830(55k tire)
-Goodyear Wrangler fortitude ht-approx $750(55 k)

Any suggestions ?

Are those tarantulas? I dig those.

On your list Nitto. I thought bfg's fit that to a T, I have some stories with mudding and simple bfg at's.

Just ensure whatever you get.. has a Tire Warranty. I have Falken Wildpeak AT3W... f**ken love em.

Do you use them in snow?

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

Yes, they do great in the snow. 4x4 auto is all I use in North Idaho

So, maybe get another set of the current BFG?
Wasn’t sure how they do on the sand/loose dirt. You’ve had some adventures with them?

For Sand

I have done some trail on BFG's AT. I even got out of a swamp that a dude with mudders got stuck in. Albeit I'm sure that was technique as opposed to mechanics. I see you are from Northern Idaho, man you lucky buzzard I love the pan handle, cant get my wife to bite though.

Anyhow, I see you need it for snow as well, so you have competing needs, what is good for snow might not be best for mud and sand. I know there are a bunch of opinions on tires and all are valid, all I can do is go off my experience, and for me the best all around tire has been bfg. I went skiing every weekend and mudding in the spring, I wished I had some pics, we were too busy having fun. Rocker panels deep in mud, wondering if it was coming through the doors any minute, crawling for 100 yards with three bozo's yelling in my ears, the good ol days for sure. One tire never let me down, BFG. Had a 4x4 for 11 years it was my daily, 3 years on factory garbage, and 8 of those on the same set of BFG's before I sold it. It's a good tire.

I never tried some of these other tires, I'm sure they are great as well. All I have to compare them too was firestone and good years, and for me that is a no brainer. It was the 90's and you couldn't even mention firestones name in a Ford crew, and good years have zero grip from factory and by design, wanna break your tires loose at a stop light? Don't regear just get some good years.

Good luck with your choice, I'm sure you are living large up there in God's country.

I'll be needing tires soon and did a lot of research and if I was spending a lot of time off road I would get the Falkens but they are a little worse in gas mileage and road noise like all aggressive off road tires. For myself that just goes off road occasionally I picked the Cooper AT3s that get excellent reviews and I can get them from Walmart for $114 each.

Okay everyone, I decided and took the plunge on the terra grappler g2 today.
At a SMOKING deal under 800.00 installed, I couldn’t pass it up

Tried to find the cooper AT3 and the Falken Wildpeaks, but no one in my area has either of them available or anywhere near me.

If I didn’t need tires immediately(could see Lincoln’s entire head and a little space above it) right before rainy season sets in down here in SW Florida8cf3194d8e9bdaf4bce54e85bd4a82d7.jpg

Just stay away from Transforce. They lasted 20,000 miles on my Ram 2500. Replaced with Pathfinder.

+1 !!! The OEM Transforce AT tires on my 2016 Cummins 2500 Bighorn suck! They've always provided poor traction and the only reason I've made it to 30,000 miles is almost all of the miles have been with a camper. Just like my motorcycles, I've found that tires last longer when there's weight on the back (two-up riding on the motorcycle) -- partly due to less wheel spin and partly due to less "sporty" driving! In my experience, OEM tires suck--especially OEM truck tires, even when their manufacturers offer non-OEM products that rank well.

This thread is also helping me to choose a better set!

Toyo Open Country RT. These are my all time favorite tires.
