I prefer the column or console. I just don't like twist knobs - harder on arthritic fingers. Gazing away isn't really an issue - you don't put the vehicle into or out of gear while moving.

The whole console shift lever thing got going with Audi's Tiptronic e-shifting in the 90's. Others started copying it, and pretty soon it was in all sorts of vehicles that took up needed space.

I guess column shifters are too practical for the current crop of drivers?
I don’t necessarily dislike column shifters but I definitely prefer the knob over the console ones for sure. Idk the knob just doesn’t bother me for the whole .5 secs I use it during a trip, maybe if you need to use it more constantly but I personally don’t even notice it. I do find myself reaching for the column once in a while but I’m sure that will change the longer I own the truck

:D I sometimes reach for the column shift in my econo-Jeep or my wife's Mustang, sometimes shake the automatic knob in the Jeep "to make sure it's in neutral", sometimes hop on the non-existent clutch when emergency braking one of the automatic vehicles.. :doh2:

I don’t mind a column shifter. I just don’t like that console shifter, even if it is dressed up with a hurst handle. How’s that saying go? You can put makeup on a pig but it’s still a pig.

My apologies sir, I'll start sending you a checklist on my future purchases so I'll know what I can & can't, should or shouldn't have. Maybe, just maybe you'll approve of what I have. The hurst handle gives you 10 more HP!

Given the year we had and all the industry shutdowns and delays I really didn't expect any changes for 2022. I'm sure what ever plans they may have had have been pushed out.

I work at Honda we have an 8 page back order list, and it’s all common things brake pads, air filters, timing belt kits. It’s only gonna get worse for awhile, the sales team can’t even get cars in

IMG_2414.JPG The wrangler has knobs. But business is still taken car of by a real shifter that's actually, physically connected to the gearbox.

The days of a manual in a pick-up are gone, never to return because now, for most people, the pick-up is their car. Hell, some people even call their truck a car. You've seen that happen on this forum.

I could learn to live with with the knob if there was no other choice. But for me, it's one hand on the wheel, and one on the stick. Nowdays, it's on hand on the wheel, and the other on the cell phone, because god forbid we ever put that thing down.

Amen, I really wish mine was a manual shift. I'd have chosen that in a minute if I had the choice!

I've had more guys ask 'where can I get that shifter?' than I can remember.
Guess there's a lot of us pig lovers out there...:D

I really didn't expect any changes for 2022.

One change that might be the result of the supply chain challenges is reworking parts into new packages based on what they can or can't get.

ThE dIaL sHiFtEr Is AwFul

Ehh, it's not the dial itself. It's the programming of the thing that sucks and that's not going to change with a lever on the column. Wanna move the truck in the yard or driveway real quick? Better get all the way in and shut the door. Wanna shift to neutral while you're sitting in the drive-thru? Better put your foot back on the brakes a 0mph before going back into gear..

I HATE the shut the door to put into drive or REV. its such a pain as you said, if your backing up at trailer, or need that quick fwd / back movement. I've learned to hold the brake when i shift into gear for small movements and door open. Thanks Chrysler, I am trainable.

yea no joke, our life is wrapped around it. especially if you are in tech industry.

I was sure hoping they would roll out the new trans for the Cummins powered trucks. That way I could see how it works/holds up for a year or so, until I am ready to trade. They really need to put the 68RFE, and Aisin out to pasture.

Well sure, if I would’ve bought my new truck 3 or 4 years earlier or whenever it was before they stopped putting that car shifter in there whenever the 8-speed debuted, I probably would have been asking that very same question myself just to manly that shifter up a little. Even though y’all’s handles do look better, it’s still what it is.

This’ll probably fall on deaf ears but it’s not to make you “trainable”, it’s to protect them against costly lawsuits. It never was disclosed that I know of but I’m sure the settlement that the family of that Boris Yeltzin actor got was pretty good so look at it from the wrong perspective all you want, especially when there’s very easy ways around it that still lets you back up with your door open and you hanging out the cab of your truck like a monkey.

Something like this will end your frustrations permanently.

Almost every safety chemage was because of something that happened. Whether speeding limits or safety belts. Understood. Oh and there's no mknkeys hanging out here. Only been called an @$$ on more than 1 occasion. :)

Never knew about those fancy bu keys u had a link for. Thanks.

Don’t read too much into it. It’s just of my opinion when I say monkeys because I still don’t think opening your driver side door up is necessary to back up but that’s just me.

You really don’t even need those. All you need to do is just throw your seatbelt on right as you’re stopping to put it in reverse to start backing up and you’ll achieve the same workaround from the AutoPark.

I hate the column shifter on my 2500.
This is probably because I had manual vehicles most of my life, my diesel trucks were all manual also my 1/2 tons had the console shifters (my company did rent a few 1/2 tons on some short jobs for me to use that had the knob, I kind of liked it after I got use to it).
Column shifter also blocks the few of the 4X4 knob on the dash when in drive!!!
