i went with pheonix gold 6x9 s and kicker in the dash again there are different grades of speakers but most are made in china. its the amplifier that makes the sound not just speakers
Don’t forget A proper equalizer, crossover tuning… Or just put it simply tuning the audio system versus just plugging wires in, adding 10,000 speakers and subwoofer. I’ve tuned stock Toyota speakers with a simple subwoofer and a crossover install creatively. Depends on the sound you’re looking for.

Lol yeah the horn honk thing sucks, I told my wife about that since we missed it by a year and the look she gave me was a classic. I can't tell you how many times I leave the truck running with her (or our daughter or dog or any combination) in it while I run in somewhere quick, but I can tell you that neither turning the truck off or having it honk every time I get out of it to draw attention to her are feasible options, to put it mildly.
That’s where I like how Toyota does it. You get a repetitive beep and not a horn honk which is a good reminder as there are a lot of idiot hybrid drivers walking out of their car and leaving them on. It’s happened to me even with that beep when using a valet.

Last, if my truck shows up and it honks at me when I get out of the car with the key in it I suppose I won’t get out of the car with the key in it if I can’t help it. But leaving the wife in the car doing more shopping etc. etc. just leave the key in the car. My Ford made that awful beeping noise with the horn and we just got used to how to game it.

As I’m sitting here reading this thread… There is one common theme. It seems most folks hate the Silitek and settings. What does a truck owner really want to think about? Reliability, tools, storage, man ****. I don’t know… If people read this and see that the biggest complaint is the back-and-forth about the tech… It sure seems to me that ram is going to stand out above the rest.

No disrespect to the audio conversation, technology or posts about real mechanical or usability issues. Everyone has a thing that makes them crazy about their car/truck.

There was a poster earlier who said oh boy… Here we go again on this thread. I can see why … But… We’re all here supporting the brand and I suppose that says a lot. My new ram is getting built as we speak in a D1 status with a ship date of May 5. I literally can’t wait… I’ve watched the end of the Internet on every video and review one can think of. Spend time watching comparison videos, think about what’s important for you and just consume as much data and videos as you possibly can.

I spent the last 33 years in the automotive electronics industry, so i must respectfully and vehemently disagree with your assessment of the manufacturing environment, constraints, cost modeling, etc. There most certainly are low bidders, and there most certainly are MANY manufacturers fully capable of building to automotive specifications. I can name about a dozen just off the top of my head, though the number globally is easily in the high hundreds, probably thousands. FWIW - "Made in China" by no means assures lesser quality. The root of poor quality electronics is the final specification by the OEM's which is largely driven by cost limitations...not poor engineering, manufacturing location, etc. (I will go on record saying I wish we made NOTHING in China for various reasons)

Is that a new thing? I have NAV on my 2019 and pay nothing...and I sure as hell wouldn't cuz it pretty much sucks compared to just using Waze or Google Maps over CarPlay.
Don't confuse prototyping with production. I've worked for GM and Ford most of my career and for the last 9 years before retirement with Lear Corporation. Lear is a Tier 1, 2, and 3 supplier. That is, we made wiring harnesses and multi-pin connectors we supplied to other manufacturers (Tier 3), we made subassemblies (Tier 2) and we made finished products that went to the assembly line (Tier 1). Our major competitor was Continental and we did cross work with them for the best interests of the OEM. Our customers were every automotive name plate from Hyundai to Rolls-Royce. We offered free engineering to secure the manufacturing of electronics. Profits were made by keeping manufacturing running 24/7. Because automotive assembly runs on the "just in time model" we operated manufacturing facilities in every major economy for control over JIT deliveries to the plants. We also operated global tech centers in the Philippines, China, Spain, German, Mexico, and of course the good old USA.

We even made automotive audio amplifiers that ended up with labels like Bose and other well-known names. Now Bose would fine-tune the amps to the vehicle but they made nothing.

We also owned copper mines so we could control wiring pricing. We owned injection modeling so we could make our own connectors, and we had ownerships in fabs in Spain to help manage the flow of semi-conductors.

I don't know who you work or worked for but I certainly have a much different experience than you. I've worked on both sides of automotive manufacturing, the supplier, and the OEM.

No confusion on Proto vs Prod. I know Lear, supplied components to them and Continental, and Magna, and Gentex, and Aptiv, etc etc etc. I believe we are looking at the same situation from two different, but familiar perspectives. Yours seems to be from an insider perspective and experience, mine is from the outside and selling to such organizations. Who knows...we might have bumped into each other in the Lear lobby!

Four things on my 2019 classic:
1. The shift knob. I hate it
2. If the drivers door is ajar or open the dumb tranny won’t go into gear. Some stupid safety issue from the feds I guess.
3. MDS sounds awful with a magnaflow muffler in 4 cyl mode
4. At 30,000 miles there are more squeaks and rattles than any other vehicle I’ve owned in 70 years.

I hate v6 turbocharged engines but I’m looking at a new ford if I can find a coyote v8

I really like my 2020 Bighorn. The only thing I would like changed is there
is no clock with the radio off. The screen is totally blank, give me a clock......
there or in the speedo display area.

Which display do you have between the gauges? I'm not sure about the smaller display but if you have this one you can have the clock in a number of different places, I have mine here:

Had a 2016 1500 Express for 50k with zero issues, was a great truck and my only real complaint is I still do not like the dial shifter knob.
One thing that bothered me and had me looking at Ford and Gm is the cam/ lifter problem, but he’ll do some reach on the Eco boost or coyote they have problems that all the motors get not just a few found a few reports on the 7.3s just blowing up as well just stating they all seem to have something.
then the lifter problem looks fine since it’s a small chance of it happening in reality compared to how many are made.

Went and bought a PW so far glad I did, still has that stupid shift dial though.. lol

I agree with the stupid horn honk when you get out with the key in your pocket and it’s still running, no reason for that.

No problem, pretty difficult to know everything about these trucks with all they have going on.

I have never been charged for nav later in my '19. I use it all the time on trips. It also shows speed limits and I get weather and emergency updates. I didnt renew the u-connect when it ran out because it didnt do anything for me that justified the fee. I have a friend tho that has a KIA I think...she is getting charged a monthly fee for remote start after it became a year old.

I might not have found a setting but, when I tow my boat, my 2021 detects that I am towing (the screen graphics shows the length). I want a setting to automatically set the tow/haul option when it detects I am towing. Unlike the backup sensor, that mode resets every time I turn the truck off and back on. And speaking of the backup sensor, even though the truck knows I am towing, if I don't manually turn off the backup sensor, the dang thing slams the brakes on when I try to back up because it "sees" the boat and thinks a collision is imminent.

The paint job on my 2019 has to be the "softest" paint ever. I have to be very careful when washing the truck least I get light scratches in the paint, especially if I have a bit of bug that is baked on and I have to work to get it off. This is especially true on the plastic surfaces such as the pieces under the headlights but happens anywhere. I'm constantly getting out the wax to rub the scratches back off. Some of the bug scratches though are just too deep. Never seen such sensitive paint. My 2001 had less scratches on it when I traded it in on my 2019. Apparently, Dodge changed the type of paint?

Better access to the oil filter. What a pain to get to. Oh, and a dashboard that doesn't disintegrate. Had that on my 2001. Apparently the complimentary Disintegrating Dodge Dashboard option I got with my 2001 was so popular, Dodge brought it back. This time though Dodge covered it under the warranty (and it fell apart much quicker this time). I have no confidence in how long the replacement will last.

I have the Alpine system and I really like it. Two things I wish the RAM had, #1 better headlights. #2 I wish they had the electric seat adjustment on the passengers seat in the BigHorn. Have it as a n option. I have no complaints on the RAM, my batter lasted almost 4 years which is longer than I expected. At almost 105,000 with lots of idling there is no signs of the lifter or exhaust bolt issues. The brakes still have way over half left. I have had three Jeeps that did not hold up on our steep gravel road, where the RAm has been really good. Just normal oil changes, plugs and the things you are suppose to keep up with. Been a real good truck......so far
