Coming Friday I'm getting withdrawls, I miss my truck. :|

I drive my diesel every day, and I'm driving 80+ miles a day between commuting to work, picking up the kids, getting them to sports practice etc. It Sucks, it hurts the wallet but what am I going to do, it has to be done.
While the mpg is not great I am averaging 18.4 mpg so I can't really justify the cost of buying a more efficient car right now, it would take a long time to recoup that cost.

Smart. Yes, it would take a long time to make that make sense. Now, if you were in the market anyway, sure, makes sense to go with something that gets great mpg, or even an EV if the range works for you.

Wife and I knew these days were coming again after the 2008-2016 admin. So our 3rd vehicle "grocery getters" have been Prius V's. They were selling cheap back when gas prices were down a few years ago. Keeps the miles off our more expensive vehicles too.

Can't really say fuel prices have affected how much I drive the RAM. Though, since it's gotten warmer, it really depends on if it's going to rain or not. If the weather is predicted to be nice all week, I tuck the RAM in the garage at my other property and ride one of the motorcycles everywhere. If they're calling for a chance of rain, she's on call in the driveway at the house.

We did decided to take my wife's F150 out to visit her parents in Bumble PA, instead of the RAM. Her's gets 22-23mpg on that Hwy trip (2.7L EB Crewcab 4x4 w/ 3.55s) and mine gets around 17mpg. ..though I will say the RAM rides sooooo much better, we might just take her next time.

I have been saving a lot on fuel as my truck is in for some major upgrades, but very soon I'll put a hole in my pocket when I get my truck back... when my truck went in for work it was 1.40/liter now it's 1.94/liter and I'll bet that it will be 2 bucks a liter when I do get my truck. Did put my truck on pleasure insurance so when the big bad Ram is back in the driveway it'll be used less and just for necessary stuff like hunting, fishing:p

Towed my 5er to the lake, gotta love the h.o./Aisin combo under nice load of 16k with additional 1/3 cord of firewood in bed. Just ticked over the 5k mile mark too.

At least once every two weeks to keep the mice at bay. Lol
6 months old, only 6300 miles. 2500 of it was in three trips. Since fuel hit $5+, it definitely sits more. Pilot and Forester main transportation now.

Yesterday for short trips. I want to make 1 tank of gas per month at current prices.

I drive my wife’s Nissan Kicks around at 33mpg mostly. Even filling the Kicks up is starting to get expensive with how many miles we drive.

Man you all must make a LOT more $$$ than I do. :D

To answer the question, yesterday because I don't have a second vehicle as it seems most people on here do. :)
I've got the Ram the wife got a Caravan and that's it except for the toys. :D

I think I make okay money and my wife works as well though even if I won a second vehicle I'd probably sell it.

@12000 miles a year, $5.00 a gallon for gas, and a vehicle that gets 10mpg better after insurance and tag before you do any maintenance on the second vehicle I figured out you'd save around $50 a month.
This doesn't even take into account the desperation of the secondary vehicle.

Now if it's just because you like to drive the secondary vehicle or don't like driving a truck everyday I could see it making sense though to save money on fuel? It doesn't really add up.

Unless I'm missing something?

The math in case anyone was curious :D
Ram 18mpg
2nd car 28 mpg
28-18 = 10 mpg

12000 miles / 18 mpg = 667 gallons
12000 miles / 28 mpg = 429 gallons
667-429 = 238 gallons
238*$5 = $1190
$80 tag + $500 insurance = $580
$1190 - $580 = $610
$610/12 = $51 a month.

Can't argue with math! My wife's Durango gets about 6 more MPG than my Ram and I still drive my truck when we go on excursions. Going on a 700 mile round trip this weekend, I'll spend roughly $122 in gas with Durango and will spend $170 with my truck. At this moment $48 won't break me so my truck wins. I enjoy driving my truck much more and the driving is half of my fun traveling. I definitely would never buy another vehicle to save money on fuel, probably wouldn't live that long or the car last long enough for it to pay for itself.

Daily but only to drop the kid off at daycare, otherwise weekends is the family vehicle, my daily driver is a 2010 Hyundai Elantra that I snagged for $1500, I drive 125 miles a day for work and it’s not reimburse, I do have transit options but they add 2 hrs to my commute and those 2 hrs I can spend w the kid. My wife has a 2013 Chevy Cruze she bought new and that’s her commute car. Ultimately I’ll take her car and she will get a new commute car

Having a truck is signing up for paying more money regardless.
Well if ya think about. It's not a 4cyl lawnmower. I get revenge at them quite a bit on those guys who take their muffler off. Some times I turn the fuel up all the way. Sometimes I don't. Either way I take them on the line, and sometimes I smoke em. Depends on my mood.

Revenge? Yeah, you wasting all that fuel & money really teaches those 4-bangers a lesson.

U Military types have turned into such conformist... It's his money and he's entitled to waste or have fun it as he sees fit. As long as he is not PHYSICALLY hurting anyone.
And NO we don't care how it hurts the snowflake's feelings for doing so. Since we have to subsidize their charging of the EV's...

I thought I’d post a thread to see how often our trucks are getting out into the sun. Since fuel prices have skyrocketed, I find myself moving the truck from the garage to work on other things to take up the time I usually would be driving the truck. Small errands are done in my car since it consistently knocks down 40+ mpg and is comfy. Liking that car more everyday and rack up the miles on it instead. I will get to tow the camper next week and then every other weekend. My habits changed when I realized it cost me $10 to run into town and back with only 1 stop. Gonna wash the camper and truck this afternoon……at home.

Couple times each day. Down from four or five times daily. Consolidate some trips. Will NOT stop driving my Ram.

I'm not either, at least in their current form. If they ever get the energy storage/range issue solved, I'd take a hard look at them though.

But it seems you think a Prius V is an electric vehicle, or EV. It's not. It's a Hybrid, and not a plug in hybrid (although there are PHEV Prius models). Runs on battery some around town at low speeds, but mostly runs off the gas motor. There are several classes of hybrid's and EV's.

Oh, and I got the 2500 on the road yesterday. Been 1.5 months I guess. Wife wanted 50 bags of rubber mulch, so just a run into town to go to Lowes.

Starting monday I'll be running the Ram just about every day as we are starting a trip from Florida to Colorado and back via Connecticut pulling our travel trailer.
Yes it's going to hurt, but we really can't afford to wait a year and see what happens. It's now or never.
