YOUR 2ND CHOISE if there was no ram

Based on the number of issues I've had with my '17, I'd much rather be in a Ford with a Cummins.

    2024 Electric Ram

It might provide enough power on a sunny day to run a fan, but not enough to run the AC. A station wagon with a roof covered solar panel wouldn't charge the batteries fast enough to matter. A big residential solar panel at best pulls down 350-400 Watts - which is just enough to run your...

    2024 Electric Ram

In my experience, that's not true at all. The last truck I bought was a '17 3500 4x4. I looked at Dave Smith motors, and he had over 750 trucks that were 2500s or 3500s. 700 were 4x4s. 699 (more or less) had a Cummins. 0 of them had 2 doors. None. Not one single cab out of more than 750 trucks...

2018 RAM 1500: ABS light, traction control light NIGHTMARE

I have a similar problem with my '17 3500. The dealership told me I was out of warranty, and it would cost $160 to roll it into their shop, and "we'll see where it goes from there". Based on their ****-poor service over the multiple electrical problems I've had, I took it to an independent shop...

Love the truck, not happy with reliability

I I also recently bought a Camp Chef smoker (love it, btw). They actually understand customer service. I had it go out during a smoke, and called for advice. I got a native English speaker on the phone quickly, and he he helped me trouble shoot the problem. When it wears out, or a friend is...

Love the truck, not happy with reliability

I forgot one other issue - one of the alternators failed and took a 1/2 day to diagnose and another half day to replace. I understand that things break and things aren't perfect. However, when there's no support from the dealer it simply costs me a lot of money to solve the problem. I could...

Love the truck, not happy with reliability

I have no interest in replacing it, and certainly not with these guys. When I bought my truck, I went to my local dealership. The sales guy quoted me a price, and when he handed me the invoice it was many thousands over the quote. I objected and told him to cut the garbage off the invoice. Of...

Love the truck, not happy with reliability

I bought a new '17 3500 4x4 in late '17. So far I've had three recalls, has the dealer replace the failed stereo, had a key fail (electronics) and now there's a failed wheel speed sensor so I have no ABS, traction control or cruise control. In all the service it's gone through, the dealership...

    Taking on Water...

Thanks Kathryn Sadly my local dealership's service department is a place I don't want to take my truck. I'll start with saying that I flew 800 miles to buy a new truck after being lied to and scammed by the salesguys, including the manager. Of course sales & service are different departments...

    ABS & traction control failure - '17 3500 4x4

I ended up in a bit of mud, and used 4 low to get out. It wasn't as deep as my hubs or anything extreme. The next time I fired it up, I got a traction control and ABS warning light, as well as a message on the dash. It happens less and less often now, but still pops up on occasion. I'm...

    Taking on Water...

Thanks for the info. Mine recently started doing the same thing ('17 single cab 3500). My local dealership is crooked and unhelpful, so I figured I'd fix it myself. Fortunately, I am almost done building my house and should bee parking in the garage within a month or two.

So pros and cons of the Cummins?

Def usage depends on load - the harder the truck is working the more def it's using. There have been a few times when I've needed to add a 2.5 gallon(?) bottle (about $8-10) every 4th tank. Sometimes I can 3-4 months without adding it. I really don't understand why people think it's a big deal...

Who's going to be the first to buy one and drop it in their truck, lol

I'd hate to lose that much torque. ;)

Any reason to carry the key around?

I put a spare key and $100 in cash inside my receiver hitch, in a waterproof box, in a bag. I use a hitch pin with a combination. You can't tell by looking at it.

    Fold down console organizer

Only the rocket scientists at FCA could design a center console for a work truck that won't hold clipboard, or anything the size of a sheet of paper. I want the throw my console into a dumpster fire.
