    I have thought it was the torque converter the whole time. Only thing that makes sense to me. I don't notice any shudder because as soon as I release the brake the truck takes off.     Same set up that you have, 8 speed with the shift knob to the right of the steering column.

    Mine will idle around 1200-1300 rpm when first started and then will go down to about 900 rpm or so. When stopped at a light it will idle lower, around 650 rpm or so. The serging/lurching occurs both at the 1200-1300 rpm and the 900ish rpm.
