I just picked up a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 5.9 auto. I was told the transmission was bad I got the truck for less than 500 bucks. The plan was I was gonna do a 5 speed swap I have a nv4500. I know its gonna be a lot of work switching the pedals and wiring etc. Well after doing some looking I dont necessarily think the transmission is bad. So if I can fix it without pulling it I will. Here is what it's doing.
It goes into reverse and drive fine it's got good engagement and takes off good it does not slip or hesitate. Put it in drive and take off it's good until you get to about 25 30 mph when its supposed to shift out of first. It will not shift it will just stay in 1st gear until it redlines. Sometimes if i shift it from drive to first then to 2nd manually it will change but not always. I have gotten it to change all the way to drive but as soon as I let out of the gas it will downshift right back to first. I took a video to post here to help you guys help me but my ******** forgot to hit record lol.
I was thinking it might be the governor ,pressure solenoid. Does this sound like the issue associated with the solenoid? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks
