This might be common sense to most but I’ve forgotten to do this in the past and it’s left me in a pickle on the side of the road waiting on the right socket to show up.

So a lot of us upgrade to aftermarket wheels and tires on our trucks, which most of the time call for different narrower lug nuts. Some even have the key for locking style lug nuts. While keeping the key in the glovebox is pretty normal, what’s often overlooked is having a socket and breaker bar on hand that will fit the narrow opening of the wheel. (The factory breaker bar and most 4 ways won’t fit) After being in this situation and not having my tool set in my truck for whatever reason I now keep a dedicated socket and breaker on hand.

Also, if you intend to use the factory spare tire the aftermarket lug nuts are most likely not the same design as the factory ones. So I zip tied a set of lug nuts together (so they don’t rattle) and keep that with the jack also.

Again this is probably common sense to most and it may have already been addressed on here. But figured I’d share.

I make sure my spline drive socket fits the oem tire iron. If not, I weld and oem lug to the adaper.

I carry a set of stock lug nuts for use on the OEM spare,..and like you, the correct socket and breaker bar for the aftermarket wheel set removal. I also care a OEM sized socket for the same breaker bar...heck, why not!

Ditto, I'm normally not huge on harbor freight quality, but they have a pretty trick socket lug nut kit that has two socket but they're reversible so you get 4 sizes. If memory serves me it's only about $15.

That’s exactly what I got. My new wheel lugs are 19mm and my lock is 13/16. That set has both and they are thin walled. Got that, a like $10 HF breaker bar, and a small piece of 4x4 post to give me extra height on the jack. I also carry a set of stock lugs too.

You are right, it’s something I’m sure a lot don’t consider till they are stranded.

5mm hex drive is you have center caps, but if you have Nitto G2s then no worries about tire issues.
