I replaced my RA3 with a RA4 from a salvaged vehicle. The navigation maps on the RA4 are from 2012 and I want to buy the update and update the maps.
While reading information on how to update the maps, several steps require using your VIN during the update and activation process.
I have my trucks VIN and the VIN for the truck the radio came out of. My question is, during the update/activation process, which VIN should I use? I just don't want to use the wrong VIN and waste the $150 on the map update :)

It gets even more complicated. They will let you purchase the map update but when you go to activate they need the VIN, the FW version (has to be the latest and greatest) along with a request code in the system info on the unit you will install the map update.

Thats’s when it will say yes or no. That’s also when I found out I didn’t have the latest FW version and uconnect would not allow me to downlaod an update because they said I’m up to date.

That’s why I’m here on the Ram Forum now.

Specify the year the RA4 came out of and your truck's VIN when ordering the update.

Just in case you didn't know, you can do the map update as long as you have at least version 17.11.xx. You don't have to have the 17.43.xx. (I saw your post in the Firmware thread looking for 17.43.xx)

Edit: Just noticed you're in Canada. Is your VP4 a US or CA model? (Different firmware due to the differences in cell modem)

Thank you for the info. Luckily the year and model the radio came out of and my truck are the same.

Yes Canadian Model as I found out there is a difference. Luckily a fellow 2014 RAM 1500 owner to the south of me in Washington state purchased a used CDN truck and performed the Uconnect update. He has the same unit part number and still had the Zip file.thanks to him I was able to successfully update my unit :party36:

Dec 10 I will be going to the dealer for a map update on my Ram 2016 Laramie on Uconnects dime, they changed my radio and put in a older version of the Uconnect update 18:43:01 also they have to update my Nav 4 radio with the lastest update its RRT-99999. Also I think if you go to Garmin web site they can update your system for a charge because that's where Ram gets it might even be cheaper . Just have to go through the site it will ask what vehicle you drive with the information.
