I am completing the 60k miles fluid chanting my 2500 6.4 outdoorsman. The kit came with a rubber gasket, but looks like factory used RVT on the pan. Has anyone done this, and did you you gasket or RVT?

RTV, that's what the factory uses. I used the Mopar brand but I an sure and good automotive gasket type RTV will work

I would use the gasket. i hate rtv. i use a lubelocker gasket. but the one that came in your kit is good to. I know a lot of guys like RTV but dodge only uses it because its cheap not the better choice. its a pain to clean and can get in the filters to.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion but as many RFE transmissions I have had my hands on since 1999 I have always used ATF-RTV or an equivalent.

I just did this last year on my 2015 6.4 with 66rfe and used a gasket. It has done well so far.

i prefer a gasket or oring for mating parts but sealer can work fine. its just a bigger hassle and more work.
i wouldnt use just any old sealer however. give the dealer your vin and theyll get you the part # for the proper stuff. buy one pan bolt while your at it and match the threads to some long bolts at the hardware store. cut the head off and use them for guide pins so you can lift the pan straight up and not smear the sealer. pan bolts usually get tighten in crisscross pattern of 2 or 3 increments.
if you go with the gasket make sure it wasnt crumpled in the box and kinked. what material is it made from ?
normally i dont use aftermarket trans filters but thats your call.
may want to get a service manual so you have some guidence. looks like theres a seal and cooler line filter in there as well. not sure if that stuff needs replacing while your in there.

IIRC there allegedly is a tech bulletin the directs dealers to use RTV on the factory pan. When dealer did my solenoid recall, they reinstalled the pan using RTV (or silicone gasket maker). There must be a reason for that. I'm thinking the factory pan does not seal properly with a cork or cork composite. I did replace my pan with PML deep pan and used a LubeLocker on it. The pan is dry and no fluid is leaching out across the mating surfaces.

cork is bad the rubber ones are good. im the same as you lube locker and a pml deep pan. no wetness at all.

we talking about 66rfe. they had black sealer. likely manufactured by threebond and put in a mopar labeled tube. toyotas sealers are made by threebond as well. its top notch stuff.
again gaskets can work well also if theyre a proper type. seen several on toyota cars still dry as a bone after 20yrs and over 100k. they looked like some kind of rubber with cork mixed in but thats only a guess as i did no scientific analysis to be sure

66, 65, 68 all went down the same line. It's ok to use the gasket and it's reusable.

nobody said dont use a gasket. likely thats what i would do, asuming theres high qaulity gaskets available. but if he puts sealer back on i sure wouldnt just use that generic permatex crap
