Break in, alarm did not go off.

Hey all,

This weekend someone broke into my truck and stole a lot of items. My alarm never went off though despite it being locked and windows up.

Does anyone k ow why this may be? The broke out the passenger rear window, unlocked the door and went to town… but no alarm?
2016 ram 1500 5.7 big horn w/ram boxes and touch display/remote start.

Iv been through the manual but can’t figure it out.

Just an idea: Did you lock it with the fob, or push the door lock button and close the door? Not sure if that matters on your yr Ram, but it does on some vehicles.

I don't think that my 2016 Ram Bighorn even has an Alarm
I think it just came with the Immobilizer

The "security system" is only an imobilizer. Not like thedays of old with sonic glass sensors and such.

When my Silverado was stolen they reached up and yanked the cable for the hood. The hood is not alarmed. Once open they pulled the fuse to the horn, which is the alarm announcer. Then they pried out the locks and drove away with the alarm silently screaming.

manufacturer alarms suck. My new truck is getting a new alarm.

All the Rams come with the capability of an alarm, but you will need the AlphaOBD program to enable it fully. I did that on my 2016 Tradesman. Along with enabling the key fob window down function.

After finding out that I didn't have an alarm after a near break in that my neighbor stopped going in to work at 3am,, I added an after market alarm with a remote transmitter/ receiver good for about 3 or 400 feet. I keep it in my bedroom. It not only displays the lock/ unlock status, but also sounds beeping alarm if my truck is tampered with. Bedroom is in rear of house; truck is out front. I don't hear the truck horn if honking. The regular key fobs arm and disarm it.

To bad about your looses. But it is always a good idea to not leave valuables in a auto over night, unless it is in a secure garage.

After hearing about things like this it makes me wonder if mine would go off in a similar circumstance. I know that if my windows are down and my truck had been locked from the fob and I reach through the window and open the door my alarm goes off, so I would think it would go off if broken into. My alarm will also go off if I lock the door from the button on the door, take the key but leave the fob in the truck, and then later unlock and open the drivers door with the key. I guess it's odd that yours did not unless like someone else said there is something turned off in the computer. I have read other posts like this so I always wonder about mine.

Luckily in my neighborhood vehicle "break ins" have been isolated to thieves walking around and pulling door handles to check for unlocked doors. I unfortunately had this happen to me and the only thing that was actually taken was a pair of my wife's Ray Ban sunglasses, so that of course was an unpleasant experience. I did have some things that were much more valuable in the floor consoles so I'm glad those weren't checked. I plan to get locks for the floor consoles and a console vault at some point but for the past 7 years of owning this truck I have found other things to spend that money on.

I am not really sure what I have, I think on my 8?? touch screen radio you can control some of that , but I could be wrong. I have the keyless doors, and if you open the door with the manual key , it will set the alarm off, till you start the truck with the dead fob.
had that happen 2 times when the fob did not work.

My 2021 Limited was broken in to last night through the passenger rear door. They stole the infotainment screen and nothing else. According to my Ram dealer the alarm only works on the front doors and windows. I received no notification from Uconnect guardian services. Clearly the criminals seem to know about the alarm setup but the dealers and Stellantis never mention it during the sales process.

When I used alfaobd and enabled my security alarm on my 2010, I tested it on the drivers door and it went off when I reached in and unlocked and opened the door.

Didn't think to test the back doors.

Break in, alarm did not go off.
