Need a locking gas cap for our 2018 RAM 1500 5.7. American Trucks out of stock as of this AM (3/14).

So old this is my third or fourth time to need a locking gas cap. One advantage of the EVs!

Thx

Locking gas caps are a waste of money and time. With the check valve/ball in the filler tube, siphoning is virtually impossible.
Like it has been reported, the **** balls are drilling holes in our plastic tanks and away they go, gas and all.

Children & ex G/Fs are what you should be worried about
Children don't know that sand should not be put in the filler tube
Exes know what foreign substances do inside tanks

My Ram has a locking fuel door
sure it does not take much to open it, but they won't open it with their finger nails

Yeah I debated this for the logest time (in my head). I decided against it.

The morons that steal gas will drill the plastic tank before trying anything else.

That just addresses one item. What about the "pranksters" that add sugar or other foreign material. This is a bad design.

My Ram has no markings
you can look at the grill cross hairs & tell that it is a Ram

The fuel door is locked
The reach under & drill my fuel tank & surprise surprise
they get #2 diesel fuel

I tried the locking gas cap on my Warlock, but it turned out to be a real PITA. The way the cap is tilted when locked in place made it really difficult to insert a key to unlock it. So I went back to the original gas cap and installed a locking fuel door instead. There are several locking doors listed on sites like Amazon and they're not too expensive and are not difficult to install.

I wanted the locking gas cap/door because my truck won't fit in my garage and it is parked outside all the time. I know that it won't stop anybody who really wants to get into it, but I figure most of the thieves and/or vandals are, for the most part, lazy SOB.s so it might be just enough of a deterrent to slow them down a little and that they would then move to an easier target down the street.

Also, I agree that it's not so much to prevent theft as it is to prevent somebody pouring some sugar or other such thing into the gas tank.
