Silly question, can your program a replacement key fob by yourself or is a locksmith/ dealer required?
If so, what is the typical cost?

True but unless the OP already has a working AlfaOBD setup it's more cost effective to just pay a competent locksmith. A few years ago before I had AlfaOBD I had a key cut and programmed for a JK Wrangler for something like $70.It can be done yourself with AlfaOBD, there's a pretty comprehensive thread in the 4th gen DIY section, and several posts on guys that have done it.
I was at Tractor Supply today, but no one was at the Key Cutting counter.
So i just bought some T-shirts , a jug of DEF & some Root Beer Barrels & Lemon Drops
MetalChewy, I love that truck, dare I say it's the Original TRX!
What’s a valet key?I spent about $115 on alfaOBD and and OBD2 MX Bluetooth dongle, and have since, programmed 2 new key fobs, re-enabled All-secure, Re-enabled security, set express windows down form the key fob and reprogrammed my tire size.
Only additional cost was $20 to have the locksmith cut the two new valet keys for the new fobiks.
Dealer visits for each setting would have cost a lot more.
I knew it was there.Inside of your FOB, there is a door key
the door key is called a Valet Key

Kind of useless uncut. Lowes cut my last one for 3 bucks. They will also make you extras to hide in a mag box for 3 bucks each and they have the blanks. Let us know how it goes programing the FOB. I have been thinking about getting another FOB and doing the same thing since I now have Alphaobd.I am not sure if this thread is still active, but here goes…I am new to Alfa. I bought 2 new key fobs and I plan to program them. The question I have is, the Valet key…should I have it cut so it can open the door manually (like olden days). Or should they be left as uncut?
Thanks
I agree it does seem useless. All of the videos I have seen showing the pairing of the fob to truck leave them in the plastic which to me indicates uncut. So just seeing if someone out there that has done this can confirm to cut the key before pairing.Kind of useless uncut. Lowes cut my last one for 3 bucks. I did not get that as the question from your first post. Cutting the key before or after pairing makes no difference as it has nothing to do with the electronics. It is strictly a manual bypass in case your FOB goes dead. It is also the easiest thing to use to open the FOB and remove the old battery when replacing batteries.I agree it does seem useless. I will post after I pair it. Thanks for the reply
