The stock 6.4 truck pistons are actually a pretty decent piston especially if you open up the ring gap slightly. I have a buddy who sprays a 175 shot on the stock truck pistons with nothing more then opening up the ring gap. He beats the hell out of the truck, and has been doing it for a few years now, lol.I kind of kick my rear on that one,as i found him the 6.4,and sold it to him for a $1,000 bucks, and all that was wrong with it was a bad lifter. In hind sight i should of kept it for myself, but that was back when i was getting warrentied 6.4's for $900.00 Canuck, and had picked up 4 from my local dealer, but after that they dried up,aarrgghh, lol Take a read through this article if you haven't already,it's worth taking a few minutes to read the complete article. The combo above will be a pretty decent combo as far as torque and power output goes, and should live a fairly long life,as you're not messing with the rod/stroke ratio, and putting more load on the piston skirt and cylinder wall. That’s why I was looking at the scud plus from frp. Has more overlap for bleed off. I could do with stock pistons and rods since I’m not boosting. They’re good to 700hp supposedly. I could just run 5.7 heads on it. That’s 10:1 compression. Would also save me a to. Since I could send my 5.7 heads out and just do a bge short block.
From frp.
219/226 112+4 "Scud Plus VVT" Designed for 5.7/6.4 truck applications, this is for those who need torque above all, but need more overlap to bleed off cylinder pressure. Mild idle, no converter required.
