The truck:
New to me 2021 Classic Warlock Quad 4X4 off a 3YR lease, EC w/clean CarFax. Appears well-maintained.
33Kmi, V6, Premium Cloth Buckets, Luxury Group, Electronics Group, Heated Seats/Wheel, 3.55 ratio.
Will be driven 4Kmi/yr or less.
3/36 coverage expires soon.
90 day used car warranty, and 2yrs left on Powertrain Warranty (=2YR Powertrain coverage).
Max Care Quote:
4yrs/60Kmi/$100 deductible for $2,275
"The Pitch": replacing the Touch Screen >$2,000!
Provided Max Care Documentation: small glossy brochure with very basic details.
Perception:
Never bought any extended warranty -based on this quote that will stand.
In unlikely event that touch screen fails, I only break even.
Quote appears high, based on threads I've read on this forum.
When 4yr term expires, I'll have driven 16K EZ miles or less. $2,275 to cover 16Kmi of driving: no thanks.
Q:
Any known common issue that I'm not aware of with RAM trucks that occurs at 50Kmi or less that makes this coverage a good gamble?

thanks for your time

Sounds like you already know the correct answer. Extended warranties/service plans are a really good way for the dealership to make money. If they were paying out $2k claims for touch screens consistently they'd charge you $4k for the plan. Maintain it, drive it and save the money.

Kirk, thanks for your reply-
Yes- have the answer based on what I know.
Tossed in Q regarding is there a common failure that makes Max Care worth considering? (at a lower price LOL)
Posted more as an FYI, and to see what feedback there is.

To each their own. I personally carry extended warranties on all my vehicles and like knowing they are there. My Ram and Durango have more than paid for themselves. My Harley, never had to use it. You can do much better than the 2275.

Contact Ziegler online for a Mopar Extended Warranty. There is a discount for paying cash for the warranty, and not financing it with the truck.

chopperman, thanks for your reply-
Agree, extended warranties are a personal decision.
Biggest factor here, IMO: in 4yr I'll drive only 16Kmi EZ miles, or less.
Finance guy following up next week, probably offering a better deal as you noted.
Don't know at what price I'd consider Max Care for only 16K mi driven, 50Kmi total -much lower than $2,275 tho!

Ludville, thanks for the Zeigler tip-
Got Zeigler quote for comparable MaxCare 7yrs/60K/$100 deductible:
$1,475 with "PAYINFULL" promo code -$800 below dealer's quote LOL.

Saw Ziegler (and Granger) mentioned in other MaxCare threads-
Apparently Zeigler, a midwest dealer, sells MaxCare nationally on discount, and can have work done at my dealer.
If decide on MaxCare, saw nothing indicating any reason not to save by buying from Zeigler-

Now to decide if MaxCare has value for me at $1,475 LOL.
It's a very "clean" truck, but buying used never know what issues may lurk -a gamble either way.

When my dealer follows up, his response will be interesting. Assume local dealers don't match Zeigler.

Regarding Zeigler MaxCare quote posted above-
Surprised that MaxCare quote is "one size fits all" -
Installed options that raise payout probability not requested-
AKA: Power seat, Luxury Group, Electronics Group, Heated Seats/Wheel.

A short time ago Granger Motors was selling Mopar warranty for $25 over cost, when I bought mine from them last year ( before $25 over cost prices) I saved $360 over Zeigler price.....

For me, driving strictly gas-powered vehicles, all extended warranties fall into the same pot of unnecessary, whether they are from the manufacturer or an after-market joint like the over-advertised “Car Shield”.

Instead, estimate what you’re paying per month for that XW and put that amount into a high-yield savings account or money market fund. If the vehicle breaks, use the money for repairs. If it doesn’t, you have a nice start on downpayment to trade or purchase the next vehicle.

But, each to his own I guess…
Best,

06 Dodge, thanks for your reply-
Searched Granger in the forum -this afternoon they posted promoting their $25 over cost warranty.
Entered my info at Granger's buymoparwarranty.com to compare-
Zeigler quote: $1,475 for 7yr/60Kmi w/$100 deductible.
Granger quote: $1,400 for 7yr/60Kmi w/$100 deductible.
*Note: the Granger "Select Your Price" table showed $0 deductible for this coverage, BUT the page displayed after that coverage was selected showed $100 deductible -Caveat Emptor to anyone getting a quote.
Also: Granger requires that "vehicle also pass an inspection from either a 3rd party company, which we can help with or a certified Mopar technician near you. We will need the inspection documentation before purchase."
AFAIK no inspection required by Zeigler, therefore $75 less for Granger is not a deal maker IMO.

This has been interesting -maybe the thread will help someone seriously considering a Max Care warranty.
I've always been in the "never buy an extended warranty for anything" camp, but decided to look into this one.
This didn't make me an expert, but learning more and finding the lowest quotes confirmed not for me.
Appreciate all the responses and info provided!

If you still have 3/36 warranty left as stated above then no inspection is required

The extended warrenties are a gamble. I've gotten to the age were I don't want to do the work on my own vehicles. The joints don't bend as well and it's much harder to stand up once the horizontal postion has been acheived. Then the though of crawling under to get up under the dash for an electrical trouble shooting.
With all the fancy electronics and sensors in todays vehicles from Climate Control (no simple AC or Heat) to the fancy radios and screens and in my case the air suspension and the "reported" issues with that system. I have gone with the 7 year 125,000 mile extended warrentys. My wifes little Jeep CompassLimited she even went ahead and got a service package also, which includes oil changes, tire rotation, state inspections and such.
I just got back from getting the inspection and oil change done, also had them replace the wiper blades (she is hard on them) while there I noticed a little sign that they had the "lowest" hourly labor charge in the area $140/hour. Yep, I'm glad I have the warrenty even if neither of them ever get used.
Oh, by the way 3 wipers installed $150.

$1500 for 7 years peace of mind seems like a no brainer ($200 year)
I'm about to hit the 5 year mark so mines running out and I plan to renew. I also put little miles on but it doesn't take much to be thankful for having it. Just like insurance, better to have it and not need it vs other way around

Extended warranties are YMMV -if the math works for you and your peace of mind, then who's to argue?

During the 4yr term, I'd only drive <16Kmi, and would need repairs >$1,500 just to break even.
We're all Extended Warranty Gamblers.... I'm just on the other side LOL!

ONLY if the warranty is from Chrysler Warranty Direct/factory. Third party warranties are generally a complete waste of money. My idea was get the 7 year unlimited mileage warranty for $2910 [which I did] so that my truck is covered until it's paid off. With an engine running around $8-12k and a trans well over $4k, the choice was EASY.

Also, they will finiance at 0% interest. My payments were $242.50. month for 12 months.

I know my situation is different as my 2020 has the Ecodiesel and not the Hemi. My rationale for
purchasing an extended service contract (not a warranty) was the potential for major issues with the
engine post the factory powertrain warranty. My contract goes to 8 years/125,000 miles and was
costly, approximately $3500. However, I've already gotten some of that back as my 12" screen failed and the complete console had to be replaced. Someone said the cost of that repair would have been about $2000 so I saved about $1800 after the deductible. My Limited as many more electronic gadgets than I could have imagined and I figured if I'm going to keep this vehicle as long as my last Ecodiesel, 2016 with 120,000 miles it would be a good investment. My truck will be 4 years old in December, I currently have 64,000 miles on it so multiply the time a mileage I should have coverage for the 8 years.....for me it was a good investment. Each persons situation is unique and the cost/benefits have to be weighed for each situation.
