IF U just pulling a small trailer on 4 pin, most of the electronic gizmo's built into the truck for towing will not be enabled. THEY R really made for a 7 pin hookup detecting electric brake setup. I assume, hate to do that, that trailer sway will work as intended, but not sure. But since U R on a 4 pin, there will be no trailer braking, since not engaged on a 4 pin, no electrics. U are strictly talking the "truck" doing all the stopping/braking alas push/pull of the hitch setup, unless say yer lil trailer has a hydraulic brake system built in, like a lot of the boat trailers do.

ADDED: U connect take U about 22 seconds to check ref E Brake. Hit setup, scroll to "BRAKES", open that screen and observe auto park brake setup and whether or not enabled (box checked or not).

Whether you set the ebrake or it is activating every time you put it in park, it will automatically release if you put it in gear… with your seatbelt on…

Which would really be a PITA when getting in and out opening and closing multiple gates while checking the south forty. A lot of us use our trucks as trucks while riding dirt roads without the seat belt while checking fence.

I agree. I use my truck on a family tree farm often. I plug my belt in and sit on it when I’m working on the farm.

If you manually release the parking brake even with the system set for auto activate in
Drive mode, you don't even need your seatbelt fastened and the Brake will release. I got
tired of putting my seat belt on and off whenever I was backing my boat into the lake etc.,
and did not want to deactivate the auto Pbrake feature and found the simple solution was
to just manually release the park brake. Hope this helps.

Do you have electric brakes on your trailer, and was it hooked up when you tried to recreate the problem ?? I'm not an expert on vehicle wiring by any means, but that could be the common denominator ...

I would presume he is trying to release the parking brake, and it's sticking on.

I was wondering if the cable is rusty, Do they use a cable still?
I should use mine more then I do, to keep it loose, but I do about 1 /month.
My 2014 does not have auto park brake, I have never had it come on.
I have had the auto park come on a couple times at the post boxes, that are on a good slope.

When I got the truck , that was not turned on.

I went into u-connect through apps, vehicle, settings, brakes, etc. The Auto Parking Brake was not activated so that isn’t going to solve the issue. I left it turned off.

No trailer brakes - just a small utility trailer. It’s happened about 4 times in 1800 miles and this was the first time I had a trailer on it.

I’m not beyond thinking it’s something I’m doing out of sequence accidentally. But I wonder what is engaging the brake to start with since the auto engage function is turned off and I don’t use it manually.

I went to a ballgame last week and had to park in the grass. I noticed a pole close but when I backed up it locked down!! Scared the crap out of me. It was the tall grass!LOL

Question, is it staying in Park when you put it in Drive? When I first got my truck, I move the selector from Park to Drive and nothing. Checked the E-Brake was off, moved it back and fourth between Park and Drive, nothing. I even took a video the second time it happened for the dealer, because they didn't believe me the first time it happened. There were a few reports of this with the 2019/2020 trucks.

I don’t know for 100% sure if it stayed in park or just wouldn’t move against the brake. I thought the engine was struggling against the torque converter but I was so frustrated at the time I’m not completely sure. Guess I’m going to have to wait until it happens again. At least it’s not left me stranded yet.

Pulled the trailer again yesterday to get some topsoil without issue. Going for another load today so see what happens.

Be careful, there is a chance if RPM are high and it suddenly decide to goes into Drive (after you selected Drive form Park and transmission stays in Park)...it could hurt the transmission. You should be able tell if the engine is like it is in Park/Neutral when it revs verses loading against the convertor.

the gear light on the dash will flash if the gear knob don't match what the transmission sees.
Or something like that with mine if I happen to turn off still in drive or door open in gear,
But that will be different then auto e brake I guess. mine is a '14 8 speed.

Not always, mine never flashed when I moved it to Drive (or any other gear) and it stayed in Park. The selector showed Drive, but it was obvious the transmission stayed in Park.

Well that's interesting, I've got 70,000 on my 2020 Ram 4x4 5.7 Hemi and have never once had an issue with the automatic park brake witch I really do like. In fact I've had zero issues with anything on the truck. One, thing I don't understand is people opening the doorto back up. I've got rear view mirrors and back up camera and rear warning sensors. I'm 72 years young and I do not need to open a door to back up doesn't make any sense.

When I was still changing my oil and doing my own service, I had a set of large ramps, and it was about the only time I wanted to open the door to see the front or rear tire, and I have been driving way longer , don't think age has anything to do with it.

I was wondering about a bad connection in a plug, maybe the smart computer is not so smart, I sometimes wonder?
I seen a smart car around here , that was the stupidest car I have came across.
