Hello,

I’ve posted before regarding a ticking noise that has gotten much better since an oil change and it’s gotten more miles on it to where it sounds much more normal to me.

However I am noticing since the weather has gotten nice out and I’ve had the windows down more that I’m getting this metallic rattle/exhaust leak noise during acceleration. It’s like a tinny metal sound and can hear it more at lower rpm’s and when near a curb or building while accelerating. The more pedal you give it seems the louder the sound gets. Sometimes if the windows are closed and music is off you can mildly hear it in the cab as well.

I’ve checked the exhaust and can’t seem to find anything out of ordinary. I’m just wondering if this sounds like anyone else’s? If there’s a fix or if it’s just normal sound.

I’ve attached a link to a Turn the volume up and the noise starts around 9-10 seconds. Truck has around 5000km on it.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Hard to hear exactly but two things to check first is bolts in header (common thing, I had 3 on my 5.6 and it was hard to find that they were broken). Other thing is loose heat shield on exhaust, did you check that in your inspection?

I second this,. I would also get under and start grabbing a trying to rattle each stage of the exhaust. Last thing would be to be on the ground (not under) and have someone rev it a bit.
Good luck

If everything like bolts and tin shields check out, listen closely to the muffler while somebody revs it up in park, wouldn't be the first time an internal baffle in the muffler goes south and starts to rattle

I did as suggested, checked everything out, I have a pit at work that I’m able to use so I can be under and wasn’t able to find anything.

Checked all the flanges and made sure everything was tight. I’m wondering if maybe it could just be normal? It’s quiet cold so I don’t think the manifolds are leaking.

You might bang on the catalytic converter with something like a short 2x6 with a thick towel on the end too dampen the force/sound, or the palm of your hand/s with gloves on. Just hit it 'upward' on the converter...but not too hard (when warm), to see if the element inside rattles which might indicate it is broken or cracked. Exhaust items expand when they get warm, which is why rattles occur and sometimes go away when hot or cold.
