Hi all, I’m getting varying information on what oil to run in 16’ 5.7. I’ve had it since 12,000, currently at 70,000. I always take it to the local oil shop at 3k between changes figured they were using synthetic oil, which is what I think it calls for. I found out today they put 5W20 standard oil in it. I’m finding mixed info on that though. Should I change it to synthetic, or keep it as is? Planning on keeping her for a long time.

I highly recommend reviewing our database on the "synthetic oil" and "oil filter" threads are there's a ton of invaluable info there! Bring a beer and popcorn as the reading is extensive and comprehensive, too!

5W30 synthetic oil (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Mobile 1 Euro are some great ones that come to mind) and a high quality synthetic media oil filter (Royal Purple 20-820 or Fram XG2, etc.) are great options... toss in a 15oz bottle of Lubegard Biotech (or get their bigger bottles and measure it all out) and you're good to go.

Or, you could go right to a high quality oil filter and either Red Line High Performance 5W30, or High Performance Lubricants Super Car 0W30 and forego the Lubegard Biotech additive ;)

Run whatever oil you plan on running with a good filter and then send it off to get a used oil analysis from Blackstone, that will tell you if perhaps your strategy is good or needs to be needs changing. A cheap synthetic shelf oil is a good start, perhaps PUP 5w30 the most popular oil on the board a 1/2 step up from cheap though. 80 bucks 2 oil changes worth.

If you get hemi tick this is an entire different conversation, so hopefully we wont have to have that one.
