The problem is there is no slip yoke on the 8 speeds so they built the slip into the shaft. No idea why they choose the center of the shaft (weakest spot) but they start to jump roap until it flys apart. The aftermarket moves the slip to near the trans and is good for 120ish but still suffers same failure.

A center slip carrier or a custom slip adapter (seen a couple) for the trans helps. Having said that, I’ve seen the trans break as well.

2wd have the exposure here, steep (3.92) gears adds to the exposure.

I don’t believe the 2x4 factory driveshaft(s) are balanced over 100mph. On all mfg’s. Unless it’s a hp truck. I had questioned this on my 97 obs. Since the top speed was limited at 97mph from factory. I’d find a driveshaft shop & get one there. Because they’ll do a better job than OEM shaft. Steel or aluminum no fiber.
Even balanced the critical driveshaft rpm is still roughly 5400 on the regular cab 8 speed shortboxes. The shaft could be balanced to 7,000+ rpm and it's still gonna turn into a skipping rope at 5400 driveshaft rpm. The issue is the unsupported slip joint that's incorporated into the driveshaft. If that slip joint was supported by a carrier bearing they'd have no issues

Posted a link to the one I bought that is made to order. (Scroll up) Hoping this on will be good. Truck will get up to at least 125 mph on the dyno during tuning.

What do you guys think?

If it's the one Fikac sells,it has a pretty decent rep,but i've still heard of guys blowing up the aftermarket shafts, although it's not as common as the stock shafts.Sure glad my regular cab shortbox is a 4X4,as i've had my truck to 155 mph,and on the high side of 140 mph many times, and never once worried about it's driveshaft,it also had well over 700 nitrous fuelled dragstrip passes on it,when i sold the truck ;)

I think I wouldn't have it go over 100 on the Dyno, but then again I'm old and safe and my young buck days are long gone.

Wildone....(I choose not to call you Rick out of pure respect as I/we dont know each other well enough to do so) but....what's your fastest et and mph in the dodge?I've read a sh**-ton of your responses over the years about drag stuff and really just on the dodge product in general,.im totally impressed on your knowledge about gettin down the 1/4 mile I must say.
I was gonna ask why the driveshafts are breaking but kept reading and I got my answer about the slip yoke thing...
I also thought the driveshaft was spinning much faster than what you guys have posted so I've learned something i didnt know about the subject ...I guess it would be just basic math if one knew ratios and whatnot of all aspects involved.(which ii dont)along the driveline.
