Not saying it couldn’t be a combination of things, however there is a distinct metallic inconsistent tapping noise at idle that I haven’t posted here that I believe is related to the noise I have posted
PUP is the most readily available oil I can grab. Not sure what’s in it now. Whatever the dealer put in. My cold starts are mostly quiet it’s only when the oil starts to thin out and engine gets up to temp that the truck starts getting noises
Thank you Burla! I appreciate your input. This is very helpful. If I can get my hands on redline I’ll grab some. I’ll look up BITOG forums and see what’s there.
Would an Hp-107 work from K&N? That seems to be the most readily available filter that’s around me. I see it not mentioned all that...
This unfortunately is a warm start. I had shutoff the truck maybe an hour before this. I will definitely be using a better oil and filter than what’s on it on the next oil change. Redline is hard to get where I am so I will have to see what’s close.
I caught one of the main concerning noises much louder. This is after driving all day with a bit more idling than usual with some medium duty towing. This was 2 starts after I disconnected my trailer when I was about to head home.

Has anyone used the Hp-1017 Gold K&N filter? I’m curious if it’s tan with redline if the high moly content will not allow the oil to flow through it as it’s a 10micron filter. I’ve always used them on past vehicles and the oil has been beautiful every 5,000km.
It’s a very odd noise. If I can get a video uploaded obviously I could give everyone a better idea to what I’m referring to. When the noise starts the truck starts idling rougher. I thought it was intermittent but it seems to be consistent when the truck is fully warmed up and oil pressure is...
Is the 5.7 have that bad of an oiling system that it needs the ultimate wear protection of redline despite the rest of the drawbacks compared to other oils?
This is only one test however the test I viewed was that redline does not flow well in cold temperatures compared to something like PUP or...
Hey members!
Scoured the forums can’t seem to find what I’m looking for.
Some of you may remember me as inquiring about different combinations of drivetrains and what the best combo was.
I settled on a truck. About a week and a half ago I bought a beautiful 2016 Ram Sport with only 58,000km...
I ended up with the 2016 Ram Sport. Truck was low km and clean and had been oil sprayed. It’s a HEMI Crew cab 8 speed 4x4 with 5,7 box with a colour matched cap in red. Has integrated ITB parking sensors and backup camera. Spray in bed liner. No heated seats or steering wheel. Thank you for...
When I do tow I do tow a decent distance probably two 300 km round-trip 90% of the time I have axed both the trucks in this comparison and I am now down to a 2017 SLT that has 75,008 km with 392 gears remote start heated seats and steering wheel. No hemi tick but was a work truck so it was...
You are correct. I currently own a 3/4 ton now and it does tow just fine. Problem is that I don’t like driving it in the winter and it’s been costing more money than it’s making. Hence the choice of doing the best of both worlds and getting a newer 1500 that can haul similar weight.
I don’t tow...
The 2015 does have the most mileage of all the trucks I’m looking at. It is a one owner truck.
I started it for the first time in a while as this truck has been sitting on the lot.
I heard no ticking of any kind. Oil pressure was solid even at idle when hot.
The service records were odd up...
Thank you for your input! I was definitely considering a diesel. Unfortunately with the cost of diesel and the much more significant upfront cost of a low mile diesel the amount of resources required is not in the cards at the moment. My F250 is a gas truck that makes 420 lb ft with a 4 speed...
