I decided to go with metal so I mcgivered a few loose screws and glued them in last night

You could cut off the blades that are on the speaker itself
Or whatever connection it has
Then just splice those wires to your new connectors? I dunno those are such one offs you may not have much luck with them

Did the machine shop tell you to use a wrench and crank the engine over a few time prior buttoning up?
I did on my 4 banger
I got a good few turns over so i could make sure the chain didnt jump
